Accounts are that he's an energetic box-to-box midfielder and a very good distributor. Highlights, for what they're worth, show him to be decent in the final third with an ability to finish as well. In 99 games with Malmo (two stints), he has 19 goals and 21 assists, which is pretty solid for an 8.
He did spend a year with Chievo Verona in Serie A and failed to breakthru, playing just five games.
In terms of impact in MLS, there's probably a wide range of outcomes ranging from Berget level as the worst, Tinnerholm as the moderate outcome, and Ring as the best possible outcome.
I would expect all four of Ring, Ofori, Parks, and Christiansen to get playing time at the two CM spots over the rest of the season if he was signed. Christiansen might also be able to backup Maxi at CAM, but another article I read says he prefers to play deeper as an 8 or 6.
And before anyone suggests it, he's right footed, so I don't think he'd be a good option as a LWB.

Tapia plays both CB and CDM and also with Callens on the Peruvian National Team. Would be an excellent defensive piece to add. If Ring goes down, our midfield defense is screwed.

Keaton Parks stepped up and took his spot.
Keaton was finally given the opportunity to step up. I fail to believe he had an athletic epiphany midseason and took a giant leap. Midas Mulligan gave us a good scouting report on him when loaned-in, and the guy had the chops but just needed a place to play.

The official Dome line is that his off the ball contribution improved to the level where he trusted him with serious minutes. Not sure what the athletic epiphany theory is, where it came from, or why you are debunking it.
The “athletic epiphany” is my catch-all that I don’t believe for an instant that some part of Parks’ game improved so much during the season that Dome recognized the improvement. I 100% believe that Parks is the same player now that he was earlier in the season he wasn’t played until there was no other choice and his play on the field was such that the coaching staff couldn’t continue to play favorites while keeping Parks on the bench.
Part of that may have also been familiarity as opposed to favoritism or anything. When we saw Parks, albeit in very few minutes early in the season, he seemed skillful but out of place. Even some of his first starts were not entirely convincing. He was sitting behind returning players who may not have been as skilled but were more integrated with the team.
Now he is comfortable with his teammates and vice versa, and our system has evolved quite dramatically as the season progressed, and it has partially evolved around him. I highly doubt Dome kept him on the bench early because he wasn't a favorite, it was more of a situational thing. His "off-the-wall improvement" or whatever Dome said fits this theory. Off the ball movement is largely dependent on your teammates behavior and the system we play, gaining familiarity with each other explains that improvement.
