NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

(Unpopular opinion alert) Assuming Facey stays and Angelino leaves I think a back line of our current players with a LB upgrade wouldn't be all that bad:

FA LB----Facey---Mena--- Iraloa

Facey and Mena are both young, athletic and have flashed individual defensive skills at times this year. Most of the issues have come from positioning, communication and being left out to dry by attacking FBs. A full training camp plus the experience with each other and the system should yield improvements in the communication and positioning area. A strong talented LB who focuses more on D than O will add support support and allow Iraola to attack as that seems to be his primary skill. Put a legit CDM in front of them next to Pirlo and things should be even better. For me the order of need is:

1. CDM
2. LB
3. GK
4. CB

I think it would be better if Facey played at RB if he stays. The club need a more experienced centre half to organise the defence.

Facey was woeful at right back. He is a centerback.

Because of his size, he was brought up as a RB. He was miserable there. He's too small for CB, which is why I think he will be ours if he wants to stay here for good.

Maybe try him as a RM?

Brought up as a right back? He played CB his entire career until he came to NYCFC. The RB experiment was 100% a Kries thing because our fearless leader thinks the best way to get the most out of players is to play them outside of their natural positions and it failed. I think he can play CB if he's paired with a tall CB. This of course is all under the assumption that he extends his loan and is even here next year.

Definitely not right mid. I'd rather see him be Pirlo's destroyer if he has the lungs. He isn't awful with the ball at his feet, not compared to some of the people we play.

You know what. Yes. This. He has the speed to make up for mistakes and isn't afraid to go in for a tackle. I would rather see him play alongside Pirlo than Jacobson. If you can shed Jacobson's salary and let Facey play as a 6, I like this. What would concern me is his distribution skills.

Agreed on the distribution concerns. However, he did play more forward balls than any other CB we have, so that's an argument for him.

Success, lol. The best we'll do would be a first round playoff exit. We'll see how many games Frank will play next year.

Depending on these gentleman is a dangerous game. I expect NYCFC to make more rational less market base player decisions next year.

I assume you mean "soccer-based" where you said "rational"? Not hard to argue Lamps was a rational signing, especially in 2014

Falcao is an interesting option for MLS because he is Colombian. He currently makes about 7 Million GBP (down from 14 Million GBP). I don't see it happening but it's a good name in his prime.

I'll add that Pirlo was also not a good signing for this team. Yes we all know he is god, but for this team, to be honest, what we needed was a demon. Someone to own the midfield not a cultured foot. I think that was a CFG forced move regardless of what we hear. I don't think Kreis makes that signing. He knows better.

Wait, I thought it was widely accepted that D was the problem :/
