NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Grella, the guy who scored the fastest goal in MLS history? Yeah I would make Veron ride the pine too. Seems like it's working for them.

Goal shouldn't have counted. He was way over the line when the ball was kicked off.

If you watch Juve, they miss him dearly. I know they lost some very good players, but have added some very good players. There is nobody to get the ball to Morata & Dybala in a creative manner. It's the unmeasurable intangibles that make Pirlo who he is. It may not be evident in the surface. Give the guy a real off season. Our problems are not Pirlo...its speed on the wings, defense, another scoring option, a real DM.

Edited to add...a healthy Shelton could make a big difference with this offense. We lack speed and strength.
I don't think I have fully developed my thoughts on Pirlo on this team and in MLS. Part of me thinks this league is a bit too physical and fast for him. He gets overrun a bit and just can't handle some of the physicality.

The other part of it for me, he shows the brilliance he still has. His footwork, his passing. I think a good, solid offseason with the team will help some of our attacking options figure out how to play with him better.

Watching some of his highlight videos (I know, I know, its a highlight video, so take it FWIW), as soon as he gets the ball, there are close to 2-3 attackers making runs down the field. I haven't seen a whole lot of that from this team, and maybe part of it is some of the speed we are lacking up top and on the wings.

"maybe part of it is some of the speed we are lacking up top and on the wings."

This. Hit the nail on the head

So is it more realistic to think we will get speed on the wings or find a replacement for Pirlo's position? Listen I know he is God's gift to football, but I don't see how he fits in with this team.
It's not so much that he's a perfect fit for this team (same for Lampard and Villa) but that we're a first-year expansion team. To be allowed to have three such world class players on our more or less otherwise crappy team could maybe be considered an honor. For me at least it certainly made our first season much more enjoyable.

I have no problem starting out our history with those three. And yes, perhaps they don't exactly fit in with the rest of the league, but by the time we're in year 5 that problem will hopefully have taken care of itself as we'll by then be a "true" MLS team (whatever that means).

Let's get rid of Pirlo because we have a shitty back line and no speed on the wings and ignore the fact we scored as many goals with him as we did without him.

Makes perfect sense.
This is MLS not Serie A or EPL. NYCFC simply doesn't have enough cap space to put the parts around him to work. I'm just trying to be realistic. I think Pirlo is awesome, I just don't see it working. I feel like Lampard won't be able to go 34 games for us next year either, so I think that's a drag on us as well.

Would our best shot be that they get injured at different times of the season so they're not both on the field at the same time? That's depressing.

Nobody will ever replace Pirlo. He's truly a rare breed. However we do have Mix to pray upon. But I'll take solid CBs and pray kreis plays a formation not relient on wingers before I gamble with quality wingers AND patching the defense up. One issue at a time. Unfortunately it'll take a minimum two more seasons to have things somewhat squared away

Hi everyone,

New here. Counting down the days until CR7 signs. He obviously bought a place I the TrumpTower to come play in NYC.

Realistically here is who is love to see them sign:
Bruma
Andre Almeida
Gus Ledes

Very similar to my FIFA 16 shortlist for NYCFC.
