NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

If he is signed on a non-Homegrown contract, he will affect the cap. That's the point.

The league, if it is to grow, needs to keep the Yedlins and Zardes' of the world. They could be 10 year stars here and play in multiple World Cups. But the league needs to sell them on for various reasons.

Theoretically, if a player like Yedlin were to demand a DP salary, could the Sounders pay him millions as a HGP?
No this is not correct. Once they sign a new contract they are no longer consider HGP. For example, DC signed Bill Hamid as a HGP in 2009 and since then he has signed several new contracts. His current contract counts AGAINST the DC United cap. Players do not remain HGP and remain cap free indefinitely. The exact wording of the rule says HGP players are not always exempt from the cap but they can be (if their players 21-28). A club isn't restricted in how many HGP contracts they sign.

DCU was never going to keep Hamid. They want to sell him and Kitchen.

But other owners would pay those guys if they were allowed to.

Wonder if Shawn Barry would be a solid pick up. I haven't seen much of hm though. I don't catch that much 2 Bundesliga action.

They've kept Hamid for 6+ years, so I would say they've kept him pretty good. I understand Kitchen being sold but I doubt they let Hamid go, unless he demands it.

I thought all players 21-28 don't count against the cap.

That's what I said, if you don't want the HGP to hit against cap, make him one of the 21-28 players. But they aren't automatically excempt from salary cap like the old days.
The Fire let CB Jeff Larentowicz go. I wouldn't mind him assuming he renegotiates his $271,000 salary.

He's really slown down and one of the main reasons Chicago fell apart. He would be another Hernandez but slower.

A few other names starting to show up:

(1) When I saw us play in Orlando at the end of the year, I thought Corey Ashe looked pretty quick up and down the line at fullback. Not sure what his salary is, but that is a skill set we didn't have much of this year.

(2) I didn't see enough of Houston to have a smart, but I think of Luis Garrido as a genuine defensive midfielder.

Mike Magee is now a free agent he's oft injured not sure he's a great fit but noteworthy at least

I'd still like to see us go after David Horst (CB, Houston). He just turned 30 and his salary would be a shade under $102K .

Correct. They've kept him until they had to pay him. I think they brought him in as a 17 year old? Now he's worth probably $1 Million a year in wages. They won't pay that. They wouldn't pay that even if there was a mechanism beyond DP to do so. That being said, they are also excited to cash in on his value. Should command about $3-$5 Million in a transfer fee.
