NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I think Boyd needs to play as a target man. Where does Villa play?

I'm a proponent of letting Villa roam wide or left. But if you do that, do you want to spend Mix's money on Boyd or Mix's money on someone else?

I've been thinking about the target forward position, since it would seem liem that would be an important component of playing out of the back. If the threat exists that you are going to bypass the midfield, defenses cannot commit so many players to the press. We don;t play with a CM anyway, how about a 442?

----------Villa-----Target---------------
Mcnamara - Pirlo- Iraola - Harrison

I don't think it changes our tactics significantly. Either that or you have to get an advanced midfielder that can fight for and win aerial balls.

Looking at these lineups was interesting. They really do show how we have gotten better during every transition. And if we really do focus on upgrading 3 key positions, that is well within our FO's abilities. If we decide to replace 5 that is a much taller task.

And, of course, this doesn't account for bench players.

Or a 3-5-2? I don't think you can play with Pirlo/Iraola centrally in this league. You need a third midfielder. Pirlo kills us. I don't think his pluses outweigh his minuses.

Depending on the new DP, a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 makes the most sense to me. Vieira flirted with the 3-4-3 a few times this year, but we really didn't have the depth on the backline for it.

I also don't think a target man is on Vieira's priority list. If we need a target man bc we can't pass thru the middle, Vieira is more likely to want to fix the passing issue rather than use a work around. Our first rumored target being a winger indicates this too. That said, if a target CF like Torres falls in our lap, I don't think he would resist going with two up front.

The backline could be fine with Chanot-Iraola-Brillant, but needs another player we are comfortable with. Mena and Hernandez don't cut it. I'm becoming a broken record, but Ventura Alvarado would be a very strong depth option at CB and starter at RB.

Up the middle, we have Pirlo and Villa. The third central player will be key, and it seems like there is growing sentiment around here that our next DP should be a CM. If we play a three man backline, we don't really need a DM, but at the same time a true attacking CM (like Harrison would probably be) may be deficient as well. I'd like a true, mobile #8 to play next to our immobile Pirlo.

That leaves LW and RW. McNamara and Shelton play roles, but meh as fixed starters. Harrison would stay at RW under my plan, but more depth is good as he may end up playing centrally quite a bit.

LW, Villa, Harrison
Matarrita, Pirlo, CM, RWB
Chanot, Iraola, Brillant
Johansen

LW: Horgan
CM: Schweisteiger? Nasri? Honda? Other suggestions?
RWB: Alvarado

I will be really disappointed if we move Iraola to CB. Didn't think he was competent there at all. If we go 3 CBs I hope we get a 3rd CB.

What about as the RCB with Chanot as the distributor/Sweeper? Obviously would need to be paired with another CM.

Nasri is going to be sold to Sevilla. He is going to command a very heft transfer fee.

Kinda crazy that there is only one player that showed up on every one of those lineups.

Is this much turnover really a good thing, or is it just a necessary byproduct of being an expansion team in a salary capped league?

Iraola couldn't cut it as a RB because of a lack of speed. That would Also hamper him as a RCB. As a CB, he also isn't as rugged as we'd probably want from the position.

Well Mix could be in all those lineups is Vieira didn't have a stick up is ass. #FreeMixDiskerud #MakeMixGreatAgain

He's immobile. So as a CDM, he was effectively a sweeper. He's penciled into any 3-man backline, but I agree that an upgrade would be best, or at least another CB we may be comfortable with behind him.

I'm just mad that I'm not getting any value this season of the jerseys I bought with his name on the back last year. Also, that hat trick I want him to score.
I have his game worn cleats. Which might just be warm up cleats... Or even practice cleats. Idk.
