NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

If you are talking about the Special Discovery Players, idk if you can convert a DP to a Special Discovery Player or if it is worth doing with a transfer fee this high. Would really wreck all of our TAM.

Much better to drink our medicine right now and get his whole fee off the books after this season, before buying him down to sign a new DP.

Yep those are the rules I'm talking about. And they wouldn't apply for Maxi, in terms of TAM, if you're right on the $3.5mm front. There isn't enough TAM to make it work.

A few things.

1. This is the first I've heard about the $3.5 million. I have my doubts on that. Anyone have a source.
2. The traditional way of counting acquisition costs was to incur all of them against the cap the year of acquisition. We all thought they were amortized, but apparently this was wrong.
3. Now, you are allowed one Special Discovery Player for whom the acquisition cost is amortized.
4. If we did pay $3.5 million to acquire Maxi, we either took it all as a charge up front, meaning he is a DP for all of this season at least, or we made him a Special Discovery Player, which would likely mean he is a DP for the length of his contract since TAM can only be used for salaries of $1 million or less.

derek_villa , you're the first I've seen to bring up this number. Source?
I think he's using the tranfermarkt value. I don't think we paid that, if anything.

I'm still in the camp that whether it happens this year or next, he'll lose DP status. And it won't matter, because we'll make a real DP signing this summer whose contract adjusts commensurately with Maxi's contract decline.

Idk if its reliable but i doubt with mls secrecy we get an english language source. I did see some floating a million number but when we were rumored talking about a loan. Even if it tranfer fee is not 3.5 million, common sense suggests that it probably will still be significant and not TAMable.

Really? I mean what common sense? TFC didn't pay a transfer fee for Giovinco. If Maxi had a fat salary at whatever club it was he was at, and the current leadership didn't want to play him or see him as part of the future, it's completely sensical that they let him leave for next to nothing.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking to force a move away from Arsenal

NYCFCfan corrext me if I am wrong - was he the guy you mentioned as being the next English player to move to MLS? Or was it Theo Walcott?

He's being being linked to Liverpool and other EPL clubs, he's 23 years old no way he's coming to MLS. Theo would be more likely, he's a bit older with injury issues but I still don't see it. He's playing solid min this season.

They paid 5 million for him. No way they let him leave for nothing. Hes also probably making under a million a season so I think you are being a little hyperbolic.

If we want Khiry Shelton to be trade bait, I think a good trade we could swing is to get a good RB from an MLS team. What RB's would you like from other teams that we could get in a trade?

Realistically for Shelton? Maybe Beltran would be the very best you could get? And I don't know if he's really that massive of an improvement and he still might be too much.
