They've got one foot in the door at the Bronx site already. I would be quite surprised if that's not the eventual location, I think De Blasio simply drove too hard of a bargain and they decided to wait out his tenure.
I would absolutely prefer a stadium in the Bronx or Manhattan over Queens or Brooklyn (moreso because I live on the UES and its selfishly more convenient for me.
But I still don't understand why they would commute to the stadium from the training facility. There really shouldn't be any need for that.
For convenience sake. Likely that a decent amount of staff, equipment and medical facilities located at the training site, so a lot of back and forth for players, staff and front office.
Not saying that it can't be done -- just saying that it isn't how you would design it if you could avoid it.
I really don't think there would be a ton of back and forth. I'm sure on gamedays, the plays and most coaching staff would travel directly from home to the stadium as well as quite a few of the staff and front office (especially considering the bulk of game days are on the weekends). There may be some travel between the two sites for front office people, but I really don't think it would be a considerable amount.
I would expect the new stadium to have its own training/medical facilities as well as its own equipment stored there. There would also likely be some executive offices for the likes of Patricoff and others.
I just don't think there would be enough travel between the two sites to make it a consideration when finding a location in the city. ESPECIALLY considering how difficult this process has already proven to be.
NYCFC officially announces the plan. Pretty cool. I feel like they could have gotten two full fields out of that, but oh well.

1) Can we rename the thread please? How about: NYCFC Training Facility Thread
2) "The plans consist of one and a half regulation-sized grass fields, as well as a 25,000 square foot building, housing the team offices, space for player rehabilitation and welfare, amongst other amenities." Does this mean that NYCFC is giving up it's 600 Third Avenue lease?
3) Will we see players relocating their homes across the river to New Jersey (or elsewhere) possibly to be closer to the training ground?

No, that was just for comparison's sake. No actual stadium there but I figured it would be a good view of the relative size of the site.

Well, if you want to get technical *most* of New York is west of the Hudson. At least by acreage, that is.

No reason why the youth teams can't continue to play at St. John's. Unlike other universities the soccer teams don't share their field with other teams, so there is plenty of time on weekends of those games to be scheduled even during the season.
technicalities be damned, they are testing us. If we don't bring out torches and pitchforks on this they will assume we would be ok with a stadium in jersey. I vote we overreact.
true but i meant more for the training, and if they are going to keep adding new teams as the current U16 grows then they need more space plus if and when they do USL that will be another matter though.
