Nycfc V Philly Motm & Post-match

I am refusing to vote because I want to see what embarrassingly over rated score people give Villa. He was hot shit tonight, but I suspect folks will overrate him yet again.

A marvelous win to pickup a much needed three points, after some reflection:
- Poku: Despite the football god he is, he can be utilized better off the bench in an attacking midfield role because of his lack of endure; Fed in a great ball to McNamara which led to the equalizer; Better a super sub than a 60 minute man
- Villa: Attitude on the field aside played an average game and would have had a great chance if it wasn't for Nemec; Tried to flick a ball like he did with Khiry Shelton versus Chicago except this time it didn't connect; With more training and games with his teammates he'll become better adjusted to MLS play
- Mullins: This kid should be starting instead of Nemec; He creates opportunities and takes chances and can covert
- McNamara: T-MAC! Nuff said (though he could work better on his passing as it led to some turnovers during the match, interesting to see his role on the team when Khiry comes back and Mix and Lampard and DP3)
- Saunders: Pretty sure that MLSsoccer.com weekly video on replays and missed calls will call that Union goal a handball, that aside Saunders came up with six incredible saves giving us the opportunity to win; There may be better keepers in MLS (I wouldn't know there names since I don't care about them) but this guy is a top three asset for this team
- Facey: The CB we need, hopefully the CB we keep if Manchester City doesn't recall his loan at some point when Premier League season training begins. MOTM.
- Nemec: No comment (and that's a good thing since we got a win, but how could you take that strike away from Villa...)
- Jacobson: Ian Joy said he played well and I agree, he plays his position well and is a great utility player with the ability to play any position on the pitch; Don't give this guy so much hate
- Grabavoy: A veteran and good to see him back on the pitch
- Brovsky: He tried to shoot? Okay?
- All other players did their jobs (average)

- Kreis: It wasn't Jesus Kreis tonight, more of Kreis the Redeemer (though that title has to go to T-Mac).

- YES Network: Who cuts to a reply when a team has a throw in and attacking. I wish we had enough money to hire someone from ESPN's world cup coverage team to direct NYCFC matches but we need to pay Villa, Lampard, and DP3 the big bucks. There is no live feed of the Mullins goal from YES, have to check what Philly has on it. Also Joe Tolleson looked like he needed a few drinks during the post game commentary. Needs as much improvement as some of our players (Nemec, cough, cough).

This is an odd feeling winning but knowing there is a lot more of it needed for this season to be marked as a success. Next Saturday back home in the Bronx versus Montreal, French Canadian assholes.

After listening to you on NYCFC podcast, I find your crankiness much more enjoyable.

But

Yeah... We haven't won in 11 games. I'm gonna let this one soak for a while. Be gone

Dear, 8-pound, 6-ounce, newborn infant Jesus, don't even know a word yet, thank you for the three points

NYCFC_Dan nailed it, per usual. Villa is a star. But the team that was built around him doesn't match the style he needs. He needs a guy who can feed him. He doesn't hold up play. Kreis wants his strikers to do that. He doesn't play in the air. Kreis wants his strikers to do that. When he makes runs, no one can find him. I would be frustrated too.

Right now, our best player is Shay Facey and it's not even close.

Funny what settling down and being played in your right position can do for you. I think there were people ready to ship him back to Manchester earlier in the season? Nothing can fully replicate competition in front of large(ish ) crowds etc. I don't think not even elite level youth stuff. The EPL might be a big step up from MLS but MLS is a big step up from what Facey has experienced before and it was an adjustment. Now my biggest worry is how long we'll be allowed to keep him if he keeps it up. I'm not sure he's ready for the upper end of the Prem and CL not sure Manchester City will want him in their squad yet next season but they might prefer to loan him somewhere lower in the EPL than keeping him in America, hope I'm wrong.

Right now Villa is that dickhead at pickup games who throws a fit over every mistake he didn't make. So tired of him running down the other players.

It's true. Not sure how much of it came through on TV, but I was sitting on the side of the field he was on in the first half and he was screaming at McNamara constantly. He is fun to watch and I do think he is working very hard, but he sure doesn't look like much fun to play with.

Now if Kreis can play a few other people in the right position we might get somewhere...

So nice to finally get a win, with 2 amazing goals. Still need to be better at not giving away the first goal but after such a long winless streak i'm not going to complain.

hopefully we can keep the momentum going in the right direction after this.

Villa played ok, but he doesn't look like a team player. Even his congrats on the goals looked forced. Ok Veeahh we know you're the best player on the team, be happy with the other guys. He's only happy if he scores, which isn't much. He must be cracked with Nemec lol. Villa would rather try and dribble through 3 defenders than pass. Maybe he should watch a real DP play, be part of a team and get others involved...like Giovinco.

Poku was ok and yes he's better off the bench. But he needs to start, work up his stamina and get better...his footwork reminds me of a poor man's Pogba.

McNamara is a hustler. Keep playing him and see if he can get better.

Nice to see Mullins not back down. We need that physicality up front.

Nice to have a win...but we need a scorer.

Getting some love from ESPN? What gives? Plus IMO McNamara's goal was more deserving but fuck it. Good exposure.

Villa fun-fact

on McNamara's goal...Villa was waiting for the ball and Mac took the shot. When he was just starting to take the shot Villa started to put his hands on his hips and his head was going down...thinking it was a stupid long shot and he should've passed to him. He was also the last to congratulate Mac. Not even a friggin smile.

Little did I know when we signed Villa, that his signature move would be hands-on-his-hips, shaking his head.

Due to Villa's attitude I am changing my avatar. He can have it back a goal or two from now together with a big ole grin every now and then.

We're on to something, at least it feels that way. A couple of game ago it felt like we where sinking down a black whole. Now there's so many positive things in this team that I think we can make this a good first season.
Saunders shows what a great keeper he is, Facey's performance, T-Mac and Mullins goals.
Things are starting to look really good!

It was good to see players mainly in positions they are best at but with mix due back that will probably change again!! Facey is getting better but desperately needs a leader in the back four as they all panic and do their own thing when under pressure.
Nemec might as well have not been there!! Once villa starts trusting his team mates he will get better, at the moment he is trying to cover every position then isn't in his own when the break is on.

Good performance and hopefully the pressure is off now so the rushed passing will stop and they can learn to keep possession.
