Nycfc V St Mirren

Enjoyed that. Impressed with Taylor, Shelton, Poku and Kwame in particular. Thought Facey did well in the first half, I can imagine him staying. Lots of intricate passing but still a bit of getting to know each others game.

Good hitout.

That was a very impressive performance. Aggressive, high pressing, quick on the counter, had the lion's share of possession and we looked pretty solid defensively as well. MOTM between Taylor and Poku for me, but impressive performances from Ballouchy, Grabavoy, Velasquez and Jacobson too. I really like our options in attack and midfield, lot's of different styles and qualities, it was difficult to judge the defence as they weren't really tested. Of the trialists, I think Alvarez's experience will come in handy (plus if it keeps Villa happy then that can only be a good thing), and Facey's versatility at RB and CB would be useful in John's absence. Not sure about Martinez, and I reckon Brandt will head over to Wilmington.

Player Ratings (/10)
Saunders 6

Mendoza 6.5
Facey 6

Grabavoy 8
Ballouchy 7.5
Velasquez 7
Villa (c) 7

Poku 8.5
Alvarez 6
Taylor 8.5 MOTM
Shelton 6
Nemec 6.5

I actually thought Brandt was more adventurous than Wingert and more comfortable on the ball.

Hard to call a MOTM as there was a ,lot of changes on both sides....but was impressed by Taylor and Poku.

Some more shots from the warm up this time, give you all a bit of variety

It was funny listening the quick chant for Tony Taylor. A definite Mancunian name.

Villa was Villa he was lucky to get chance, those two defenders will be in a circus net week but there was no luck about his reaction and finish.

Both half defences were assured, i thought Josh gave better solidity to the back when he was in net.

Second half midfield seemed to create a little more but both sets put in a good shift.

Taylor's goal was power and technique and the shout he made was from a very happy man. He impressed me. As it happens him and Nemec looked the better strikeforce in the second half. I liked Nemec, he will score goals and will frighten the life out of a few at the back. Always moving a pulling players out of position so Taylor and Shelton had space to operate in. An unsung hero Mr Nemec.

I get the feeling the second half team were the fringe and a few put themselves in the shop window, with good performances.

Without taking away from the pish St Mirren reserves / first team blends, there were a lot of positives to take away.

Mr Kreis will be a little more relaxed but he will know there will be a much bigger jump in class coming on Sunday.

Meara apparently tore his meniscus and will miss at least 6 weeks.

Really interested to see how well that possession style will translate in MLS. I thought the midfield stuck out the most and really did well in both phases. I've said it before, but I think our midfield could have the potential to be one of the best in MLS.

What is the deal with Mix? Wasn't he suppose to be there? Seems like he wasn't even on the bench.

I thought I saw them show him in the stands, wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up.

I have the video working because I left the forums up from lunch and for whatever reason that still works.

On youtube, it doesn't. Hopefully they can fix it.

When do we start the Brondby thread? I'm ready for Sunday. I hope they play even better there.

Considering most of them are still getting to know each other I think it was a great performance, was impressed by set pieces too but that may be because i'm used to so many poor ones from MCFC lately..
