Everyone is saying it's the 3rd year option that they want. I say get these two years out of him. Use it to capture more fans and let's start building younger.
Agreed honestly I don't want him that third year. I want to see him play for 2 and then get a younger more dynamic DP. They salary cap will be raised hopefully some restrictions will be raised and we can get a real young star in the city.

Agreed. Lampard and Pirlo will be wonderful for the franchise, both on and off the field, but once you draw those fans in you gotta hook them with someone that will be here long term. We could get 3-4 years out of Villa. Let's take our 2 from Lampard and Pirlo and call it a success.

I think the decline in Serie A has more to do with the economy of southern Europe and the big money new ownership in PL than it does with violence in the stadiums.

There are a few things probably. I was saying the rise of football violence in Italy was just one factor.

When football violence was at it's height in the UK, attendances suffered.

One of the biggest factors of the growth of the EPL has been the fact that all stadia in the top division had to be all seated. This helped attract a lot more women and families to games.

Gun to head, I wouldn't expect anything today. There's still the weekend, though, but having Pirlo in Florida isn't the best of signs, unless he comes back for Sunday. Logistically, it doesn't make too much sense.

Him being in Florida means nothing really. I'm sure his agent is doing all the negotiations and they can still announce the signing now and do a press conference at a later date to present him.

But who wants the option? Him or the team?

It's strange to me that it would get caught up on something like this. I can understand haggling a bit over price but I guess I always a assumed a guy of Prilo's stature would pretty much be allowed to dictate all the other elements of the agreement. When its a guy like Prilo you say: "Oh this is great, thanks for considering joining our team, how long would you like the contract to be for?"

come nycfc dont fuck this up by forcing a third year when you know by then there will be another DP out there to go after.
I can imagine that they want to stagger their DPs. Lampard will be done in Dec 2016. If Pirlo also ends then we end up in a similar situation to this year. 1 DP and half a season to wait until silly season.

I can see that being a concern but i feel by then we should maybe have a better supporting cast to go first four months doing ok.

or is that expansion year? and we lose more players too?

Agreed it won't be as bad as this year in terms of supporting cast. Of course Villa will also be 2 years older. I'm just saying I could see that as an issue in the FO minds. I almost wonder about signing players like this through mid season. Sounds crazy but then you get them to silly season and for any CCL run we make.

I'd bet all of my DanBucks that Pirlo will be the honorary captain on Sunday, similar to how Manchester City players came out. He will be introduced as our next DP in fanfare as the stadium erupts. No flying down with a parachute though, that would mess up the beard.

That is a great use for DanBucks. High stakes intrasite betting.
I'll see that bet. 614 DBs that Pirlo will not be the honorary captain.

What I'd like to see is them show him on the big screen on Sunday and have a stream of him inking the contract and then a camera follows him as he walks out of the suite into the stadium and to a standing ovation

If they try that, he better f'in hold the signed contract up to the camera for a closeup!!! Fool me once...
