Stars do fill stadiums, but it's still very hard to convert kids to like soccer"

I think your right to a degree on this. I remember before my son started AYSO last summer I was watching the coaches that were "drilling" the U5 teams.. It wasn't fun for them. I spoke to a couple a guys from England who very plainly said that they need to fall in love with the game, not feel like it's school or a chore at that age. I started to bitch about the practices of some of these coaches who I'm sure thought that the NFL approach was good for this game. I woke up one day and decided to volunteer to coach the U5's. I reached out to some of the better performing AYSO regional volunteers and they echoed what I was told by the guys about letting the fall in love with the game. I stuck to that approach and saw the results in the eagerness of the kids to wanna come and play every Saturday. I think it's in that youth part of the game we need to get it right, not saying every kid will want to play it for life, but I'm sure that the numbers and devotion will be there. In all my experiences this had been the most rewarding for me. Nothing better than seeing young kids having fun and giving it their all to play the game, on their terms.

A 37 year old DiNatale? Oh please no.

Now on the other hand a 23 year old Yeni is intriguing. And besides, he fits the pattern.........

Does anyone know anything about Pablo Alvarez? (Villa's friend)

This kid looks so promising, he reminds me of how yaya toure plays in the fact that he seems to take most of his shots (that looked gorgeous by the way) from right outside the box, but he also seems to be a great poacher as well. He just seems to have that natural ability to be in the perfect spot in the box. If we were to get him I think his signing could possibly even over shadow giovinco on fact of being "good for the mls signing stars who are in their prime." He is even younger than giovinco, hasn't even hit his prime yet, and he is much more built for the physical style of the MLS than what giovinco is IMO.
Sidenote: for someone who is listed as liking to play as a winger and some times as a striker, he spends a lot of time hanging around in the middle like a CAM from what I've seen

this is where a partnership with mcfc can be beneficial.. you can have arsenal recruiting him selling him idea of playing for reserves/possibly being loaned out who knows where... when you have mcfc recruiting him to play in NEW YORK CITY on a nice payday with the benefit of a potential move to Manchester City in a year or two if he thrives... thats a big in my opinion

I'll take Di Natale. He's scored 12 goals this season. The money just has to be right. Marvo Di Vaio was a hell of a player at this age. This guy isn't Marvo Di Vaio, but you can score goals here at age 37.

Could Man City sign Yeni and then loan him here? Does that make sense? The wages would have to be low.

No disrespect to DiNatale, but I would rather not sign him and keep pursuing Daniel De Rossi instead. DDR is much more useful to us, especially with Kreis's diamond formation. We need DDR's world class CDM ability

You're right, given a diamond, but Kreis himself has said that they're not totally tied to the diamond.

Yes he did say that. I'm just going off of a hunch from his past history. He multiple times would switch to a different formation if it was better suited against the team they were playing. But he would revert back to his trusty daimond. I'm kinda reading into his statements that it will be something like that. He isn't gonna come out and say, "We will be doing the daimond formation and it will be our standard formation." It would just make him sound one dimensional as a coach

Di Natale is a far better player than Di Vaio

Di Natale's recent record:

2010/11: 28 goals in 37 games
2011/12: 29 in 43
2012/13: 26 in 42
2013/14: 20 in 38
2014/15: 12 in 15

Would you really want to use a DP spot on another guy who will be 37-38 by the time he would get to NYC?

1) I don't think they are mutually exclusive. They play two different positions.

2) I think we should dial back the De Rossi rhetoric. He mentioned in one interview that he would consider heading over here if Roma was the league. Consider and if - both in the same sentence. This isn't like a Xavi situation where we seem to be actively negotiating with the player.

Not to mention it is a big big big if.
