Optimal Formation & Starting Lineup

I remember last fall my favorite thread was the Formation Speculation Thread. We literally just tried to make lineups off of the players that might not even be on the team any more. We had no idea what PV was going to do. This just makes me think of that thread before it got gobbled up by one of the mega threads. I haven't seen any pictures of Iraola so I'm not banking on him being back yet. Which makes me worried who's going to play RB. And I don't want it being White again out there, no sir. Plus that means Hernandez is in the lineup... All I hope for this game is to see Mullins #whitepoku subbed in and make some magic.

A 3-4-3 with one shaky deffender. PV would probably put Hernandez there though...

I think it's reasonable where you are going, but with three in the back it would be nice if one of the two deep midfielders was more defensive minded. So with a 3-4-3 I think you go:
--99 Villa Khiry
----TMac Mix
----Pirlo Bravo
Mena Brillant White
Bravo has a more natural defensive mindset to help cover in the back than either Pirlo or Mix. Offense, great. Defense, we'll see.
That's my guess, too, but I think there is no way they sit el Paloma, matarrita.
Villa on the RW??????You guys are a serious lotMy post was more about having some hypothetical (ideal) fun. Vieira is going to play what he knows, which is 4-3-3, and I don't think anything that's discussed here is going to change that, though it is amusing to imagine PV scouring the forums for tactical advice.
Now, if I was supposed to comment elsewhere in the forum, then that's my fault, but if you try browsing or searching for threads on "formations," the site's taxonomy & navigation aren't particularly helpful.
OK, so to please the formation gods (hahahahaha), I will now give my 3-4-3 formation (as I don't think sticking Pirlo by himself in the middle works):
Col Saunders
White - Mena - Mattarita
Poku - Pirlo - Bravo - TommyMac
Villa - Mullins - Shelton

White and Brilliant looked really good together in preseason, considering this and how much White struggles at RB i would put Gomez in at RB if Iraola isnt fit to start, thought Gomez looked decent in the pre season matches, certainly better than White was at RB.
Wouldn't change any of the midfield/forwards who scored 4 goals last week

My two cents is that next to heart, the most important thing a soccer team can have is chemistry, so I'd keep as much the same as possible. That being said, we were getting shredded last week because our backline was t0o flat. With Pirlo not being a defensive midfielder, and Vieira wanting to play a 4-3-3 (which I like), I'd like to see the two centerbacks set-off vertically so fill that gap between the midfield and defense. Especially today, I think Mataritta with his speed is given the role of shadowing Gio anywhere he goes in that space.

Sorry that was supposed to be Guaje on LW. I liked him there today, but we need a proper #9. Btw have never heard of Mullins being called #whitepoku !
I think you could pick either one of these players and place them ahead of Saunders.... they don't flop on the ground and never get caught rushing out into no-man's land....
