Quote from an ESPN article: Pirlo Article

Pirlo said MLS makes up for in speed what it might lack in technical skill, though his new coach, former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira, might be able to improve that facet of the game.

"It's a beautiful kind of soccer," Pirlo said. "It's fast. Technical not so much yet, but maybe with the arrival of European coaches it will improve in that regard.

Guess he wasn't fond of the domestic coach's tactics? Although he could be referring to a singular coach or the league in general.

Former coaches tactics as exemplified by Ned:

Go that way, really fast, if someone touches you, fall.

Actually if you watch the interview posted on ESPN FC he defends Kreis. Says he had a good relationship with him and unfortunately when teams do bad its the coach who has to pay.
Yeah, haven't watched it yet.

If there is one thing he is, it is pure class. It would be pretty depressing to see Pirlo bothering to take shots at a departed Jason Kreiss. Definitely would be beneath him.

I think it's meant to be more a comment about the league as a whole than NYCFC last season.

I don't necessarily think it was a dig but more a statement of fact. At this point in our country's development, European coaches are going to te f to be better

He's taking a shot at ALL American coaches.
