Revolution Postmatch

Can we just marvel at how awful the rev's pitch is, it was like a cloud of black would spray up with every step, and the ball would stop after five feet, I think that is a big reason Mena turned the ball over so much, but thankfully we made it out of there with all three points!
Glad you said that because I thought the ball moved slowly and just died on passes.

But the Rapids and RSL have both played two fewer games than Dallas and us. Based on PPG, we'd be in 4th in the West.
Actually we wouldn't because we have a stellar record against the west and if we were in that conference we'd have played twice as many games against them and racked up twice the gained points while dropping fewer against the east. How 'bout them apples and logic :)

Road Warriors!

(I had a bit of a problem jumping back on the Lampard Bandwagon. )
I will simply requote myself from after our last road win.....

We are the M A D M A X of MLS

But we'd also be a great home team and mediocre road team, and we'd look like this:

This team really had trouble adjusting to the turf at the beginning of the match. I texted a friend of mine during the game that we were clearly the better team, but I was worried they could get 1 or 2 off of some mistake due to the turf.

I thought Mena had another decent game, but he had some real bad goofs with the turf.

New England was a lot more dangerous than New Jersey was over the weekend. The Revs missed a couple of sitters and probably should have scored at least two. Of course, we should have scored at least 3.

Lampard deserves full credit for that goal. He did a good job of establishing separation from his marker and then sticking out his knee to deflect in the ball.

Villa does a great job getting in position to receive the ball and take shots. Unfortunately, his finishing is still off. He should have had a brace today.

I thought we were really weak on the wings tonight and let in way too many dangerous balls - particularly on the right side. Fagundez and Tierney were killing us. Give Tierney credit for solid D on Jack Flash too.

Lots of sloppy fouls around the 18 by the defenders. At the end of the game, our D looked a lot more like the crew that had been letting us down than the recent stalwarts.

Mena did a great job marking Kamara, but he was really sloppy in other parts of the game. I will be happy to see Hernandez get the next start.

Our one touch passing over the last 30 minutes of the first half was beautiful. It took us some time to warm up, but then we were in control. This is a confident team that knows what it wants to accomplish and how to get that done. Full credit to Coach V for that.

It doesn't need to be in the box. Ref could have called a pk on the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, but likely didn't because of how far away it was from the goal (and how bad Khiry is at finishing...)
What the heck - how are so many confused about the rules?. Penalty kicks are awarded for fouls or handballs in the box.

Agreed...but Mena has been pretty good at tracking back and breaking up his goofs. When Hernandez goofs it's a yellow, a red, or a goal.

On the DOGSO/pen thing, the FIFA rules are these:

A red card can be awarded for (and I quote):

- denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving
towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a
penalty kick

Note that it specifically states that it is possible to have a DOGSO situation which is punishable by a free kick.

Also the definition of when you award a penalty is as follows:

A penalty kick is awarded if any of the above ten offences is committed by
a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball,
provided it is in play.

So a peno can only be awarded if the offense takes place in the box. There's no caveats about DOGSO there.

This is all from Law 12,if you wanted to look it up.

Anyway, now that's over I can say "YES! FOUR STRAIGHT WINS!" I wasn't sure what our away form would continue like after we've adapted a fair bit in the last few games and had some time off, but with the benefit of growing defensive solidity (if with the occasional lapse still present) we are actually looking alright. No bets on how long it lasts but let's hope that we can keep playing some good football because some of our plays right now really do look decent.

I literally read this right before posting, yet somehow completely misread it. My brain saw what it expected to see, not what it actually saw.
A little freaky, actually...

Incredible how much better this team is with:

-Villa, Pirlo, Harrison and Lampard starting

- Shelton and Lopez not starting

Lampard doesn't get lucky. Lampard puts himself in the right position and good things happen for you and your team when you do that.

The end of the match was really nerve racking. I think Villa needed to put one of his opportunities into the net and it would have made for less stressful 2H for us but as I've said before, he's an incredible footballer so I can't complain too much.

Another huge 3 points! Very little breathing room for 1st place, though (Montreal has played 3 less matches than NYC and their only 6 points behind us.
