Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said he has "amazing memories" of Manchester United and confirmed he would like to play in the United States before the end of his career.

Ronaldo, 30, is under contract at Madrid until 2018 but last week suggested to German football magazine kicker that he could leave before then, saying: "You have to do whatever makes you happy."

Ronaldo is a fascinatingly flawed creature. I've always been on the Messi side of the spectrum, but I imagine I'd learn to love him if he was banging in goals for us. And yeah, I know he has a solid philanthropic record.

Doubt it.

CFG would constantly be trying to get him to go to Manchester. That would probably annoy him too much.

Ronaldo will be playing in Europe until his retirement. He's 30 and he's still absolutely killing it in La Liga. He'll continue to do so wherever he is in Europe. Maybe it will be PSG or back to Manchester United, who knows. He'll be able to play in Europe until he's 40 no matter how good or bad he is but because of how many jerseys he can sell.

That would make sense, but I feel like he's the kind of guy who would enjoy scoring tons of goals against poor opposition. You know, like the big kid who loves scoring on the little kids. Once he stops being that guy in the top flight, maybe he wants to be that guy on a new stage.

That's a possibility. But he'll always go for whoever will give him the biggest salary, let's face it. He probably won't be willing to go for much of a decrease just to join the MLS if a European team is offering him a lot more.

And not to mention, he has a huge ego. Playing on a team like NYCFC or Orlando is an extreme quality downgrade for him. He'd rather be playing for a European giant, making less goals.

I think of Giovinco and TFC's pledge to make him the highest-paid Italian player on Earth. He was also a bench player though. I guess I'm an optimist. For Ronaldo. That's two things I never thought I'd catch myself saying.

Say Ronaldo comes to MLS in 2017 and neither LAFC or Miami are playing that season. Can he sign with them, like Villa signed with us in 2014, and then be loaned to another MLS team.

I'd take Ronaldo even if for a year.

Well there goes LAFC hopes and dreams. Ronaldo to Cosmos confirmed.

I totally disagree with this.

Ronaldo will love living in a mansion just steps away from South Beach and working 5 miles from South Beach.

Ronaldo plays for Miami in MLS somewhere between 2018-2022.

Of course a 30 year old star isn't saying he wants to play in MLS. A 35 year old, though.........

He'll be singing a different tune.

Sounds to me like his agent wants him to go to MLS for the $$$

But Ronaldo would really rather stay in Europe playing at the highest level.

That or Manchester United or PSG or whatever club has essentially won him over at this point.

You don't get it though. He'll be too good for MLS. Not to mention, there's beaches in Madrid too. For a player such as Ronaldo, there is not as much of a lure (when it comes to the easy competition he'd be facing or the salary he'd be offered, at least). Not to mention, it'd certainly downgrade for his rep. If he is capable of being a good player on a European level in 2018, he'll stay in Europe. We won't be able to get him here because we don't meet his salary, popularity and skill standards.

Giovinco is too good for MLS.

But he plays in MLS.

So........
Giovinco was a fringe player on his club and national team in Italy and was still, quite clearly, the best player in MLS this year. He was a great get for the MLS to be sure and a ton of fun to watch this year, but the only way you can compare Christiano and him is if you assume Ronaldo's skills will have deteriorated by a meaningful amount.
