Stadium Discussion

Have they already discussed making it a multipurpose stadium.

Could they also make it a major Track and Field stadium for the colleges or if we make another Olympic bid someday.

You have obviously never been to a soccer stadium (sorry not meant to be a negative) but honestly combined with athletics (as Wembley used to be) they are s**te. You need the crowd as close to the pitch as possible

Isn't Icahn a track and field specific stadium? Would hate a stadium with a track around it. Napoli plays in a stadium like that and it's awful. Fans are miles away from the pitch.

Also, no subway stop on Randall's Island. It's a bitch to get to.

No metro stop, would be a headache to get to. But aninteresting piece of land to re-build it on.

If I remember correctly, the stipulations in the Icahn trust would prevent a full-time soccer club from being able to play at Icahn. There are much better locations out there.

That's an oddly specific stipulation. Are there any Wilpon connections?

I'm pretty sure 413Blue is correct. I'm not sure if anything specific bans a full time soccer team, but I thought whoever rebuilt the area stipulated the stadium can be used for track & field events only.

Yes that's what I meant. It does not say "no soccer" but it is to be a T&F stadium with limited exceptions for other events. Those exceptions would not allows a Soccer team to play there.

Are there any proposed diagrams on how a stadium would fit at E 153rd st? Seems like that might be a tight fit. And would Although a tit fit wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. If they're looking at something in the 25-30 K range, I'd prefer something a little "cozier" like Goodison Park or Craven Cottage. I don't really need to see something that resembles Eithad Stadium.

This is probably just some random person's mockup, not even sure if they took care to make it to scale, but from a quick google search:

I'm still hoping that the stadium gets built in Queens. There is a huge empty piece of land in College Point that could fit a stadium and parking. No subway stop, but you can take the 7 to Main St. and take a bus. Super easy to get to by car.

Would love this. However scouse is right. The whole area is marshland and very unfit for construction. All the developed land in the area is sinking.

Scouse says he won't go to a game of there isn't a Subway stop nearby, then posts how he wants to build a stadium in a place where you need to take a city bus just to get close.

Have you been on a New York City bus??

1) i take a bus everyday for school. 2) if a stadium was built in the suggested area (of college point) i would walk there. Thats why i kinda want it there. I wonder what the CP in cp scouse stands for?
