Stadium Discussion

Rather amusing for NYCFCfan to be targeted by an EoS blogger considering his write-up has so much more depth and investigative analysis than anything EoS has every put out.... and like he said, it's not even his day job (and everybody knows it).....

lol true....it felt defensive...like he is pissed he is not the one with the Scoop. maybe he knew but didnt have enough time to put a negative spin on it.

This rumor may or may not turn out to be true...but hey guess what....its the internet stuff is written all the time. and to the whole "lesson" about journalism..... please save me the antics about journalism integrity and applying it to bloggers....lol come on

This is great work guys. Let's hope that's our spot.

Does anyone know what is currently in the buildings on the other side of Borden Ave.? It's possible that the Club would want to expand in that direction - re-routing Borden along what is now 51st Ave.
I thought about this and think it's unlikely. Not impossible but very unlikely. There's light industrial across the street, which I guess could be moved for the right price, but 51st Avenue is a much less suitable main thoroughfare than Borden. I haven't measured or anything but I'm pretty certain it is a bit narrower and heading west, once you get past the hypothetical stadium site you would have to cross back to Borden because 51st is not a through street. That would entail even narrower side streets, and I just see the truck traffic -- and this stretch gets a lot even without Fresh Direct -- getting all clogged. I'm no traffic engineer, and politics doesn't always go as you would think, which is why I don't negate this completely. But I doubt it.

Everybody associated with the EoS blog has an inferiority complex since they aren't real journalists. The slant at the website is so skewed I stopped going there long ago.

I checked Google Street Map. Most of the buildings on the opposite side of Borden appear to be single story warehouses - many have For Lease signs up.

I have a friend who works at Fresh Direct, and the next time I see him, I will ask if he knows anything.

Also, this building is on the opposite side of Borden, less than 100 yards west of the FreshDirect location. Currently houses small offices. A really great looking place and potentially the site for good restaurants, etc.

Hypothetical here..... but what if the idea is not to have parking directly adjacent to the stadium, and instead situate it a few blocks away which would create additional foot traffic to the stadium - hence promoting the businesses along the walking corridor to the stadium???

I agree it is a challenge. Borden is a main thoroughfare. However, if the Club takes up all the two blocks on the other side, you could reshape the streets a bit to make the turn more natural and widen 51st.

That's what it would take probably. I think that's a pretty big buy, including property that's not necessarily for sale. Everyone has their price, but it's also more expensive than when it is for sale.

Interesting point.

Parking is the bigger issue. The BQE and LIE are both fairly close, but you'd have to exit onto Borden Ave. around a mile away. Maybe there is a spot along the way where a parking facility could be built.

They can even rent out Kmart scooters for those who really are too lazy to walk a few blocks or for Legends STHs.

One of the good things about this location is there is almost nothing very nearby that is not industrial, with a couple of delis that service the people who work there. That means there is probably less community opposition than most other spots. One the plus side, there are some joints, and a growing residential neighborhood with bars and restaurants, near the second-closest subway stop which is a 10-minute walk away. So fans would have places to go who would most certainly be happy for the business. The downside is anywhere you would build parking is probably nowhere near that direction, and there's really nothing that would benefit from that foot traffic where you might build it.

Random fact that doesn't really mean anything. The location under discussion is less than a mile from the Hunters Point South location we got excited over a few months ago:

One thing tho, isn't us discussing this bringing potentially unwanted attention to whatever the team has planned? The last thing I'd want is our thirst for info to kinda mess up what they're doing.
This is what happened with the erroneous 500 City points we all received then reversed about a month ago.

By all accounts and posts that I have read, this seems to be a great spot. Am I wrong or missing anything?
well, lets review our options. Before: nothing; Now: maybe something. Yea, it would be an amazing spot compared to what we had before.

Anyone know what the pedestrian access is like from the nearby subway stops (Hunter Point 7, 21st St G)? Mainly wondering about getting over/under the LIE.

Did someone mention a Q/N nearby?

If it is CFG/NYY behind this, they wouldn't spend $48 million for the land to relocate GAL.

Anyone know what is the size of the GAL building compared to the plot purchased? I could see a scenario where they reach a deal with Atlas for a portion of the building/land to relocate GAL and Atlas develops the rest, i.e. put GAL in half of that space and then turn the rest into an "innovation cluster" of startups blah blah blah which could justify the high purchase price.
