Stadium Discussion

This is off-market, but owners would sell/lease, and deliver vacant. Whatever sits on Block/Lot 635-13. They purchased it on spec that it get's rezoned for residential down the line. But they would sell now for the right price.

NYCFC have been searching for:

1. At least 10 acres
2. Within 5 Boroughs (that should put a lot of you at ease)
3. Near subways and major transportation.
These requirements are pretty self-evident.

As for what they have in mind or are planning, I have as much knowledge as you all do. If I knew anything more I wouldn't be sharing, since it would be confidential. Hence, why I waited to share my site idea for a while in case they might reconsider.

Good to have in mind, at a guess Edelman are working quietly behind the scenes on this..

all the asshat comments aside, this place can be built over the parking garage and elevator company at the original location. MSG starts 2 stories up in the air. and would be close to the same footprint as our stadium. The Westchester mall in white plains is about the size of the of a stadium and built over 4 levels of parking.
A stadium built over the elevator company and the parking lots could be easily done. You could also avoid having to deal with building a 153rd street bybass and already have the underground parking

I think that's right on point. I would go even farther and say I believe they are pretty far along on a location and we will probably get an announcement mid-season (knock on wood we have one!). Edelman was one of the real forces behind founding NYCFC and a veteran real estate pro. MCFC's new training facility is his doing. When it comes to team/organization building you probably want him behind the stadium project, just goes to show how hard it is to get one done in NYC. However, unless it's Pier 40 or equivalent I'll always be bitter this location was passed up. But then what's football/soccer without a bit of cynicism? ;)

I've been a heavy critic of the FO but for some reason I also think there's a good chance the site scouting and dealmaking could be pretty far along and an announcement will come this year out of the blue. I couldn't justify this expectation to anyone, but I hold it nonetheless.

He´s very tight with the movers and shakers in Abu Dhabi as well.. have been involved with them at least a decade at a guess.
He was the legal guy behind Man City buying up 200 acres around Etihad stadium as well, making sure that stuff like the academy stadium we just watched became built.

That is a fine location that they passed up. Was it before or after the Bronx location fell through?

I'm actually encouraged that site isn't being considered, because that means they are probably targeting a better one. It does make the Aqueduct site rumors even more strange though.

After word about Bronx site falling through. Around thanksgiving/early December. Rejected right before Christmas and again after TP left. Though I wouldn't count Bronx out. If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on the GAL site. And they are just being very hush hush about it this time till it's finalized. And they'll have a big to do with renderings to present to public at announcement. Though I'm secretly hoping for a pier 40 reboot like most of you, or how bout part of the South Street Seaport redevelopment if we want to get outlandish again!

Anyone clever enough to put one of those voting boxes on this thread of where we all think the stadium will land?

Yea, it's absurd. St. Patrick's Cathedral actually owns the land that the Palac Hotel is built on, and the air rights above the Palace Hotel. The hotel operator owns the building but leases the land and air rights from the Cathedral.

You will probably see the Palace Hotel cease operations in a few years as developers have offered to "lease the air rights" from the Cathedral for more money than they are currently receiving from the Palace.

Not sure where you got this info from , but none of it is correct.

Harry Helmsley bought up the old Villard Mansion, which makes up the bottom few floors and used the air rights that came with the mansion to build the towers above. There was a significant legal battle where the city tried to stop him, but in the end they were just able to convince him to leave the original mansion largely in tact as the first few floors.

There's already a 55-story tower there, so that's not going to change.

They're not asshat comments. What you are proposing makes no sense at all. The comparable things you are referencing are not at all comparable. Each of those things was built that way by design. You can't just build a platform around an existing building and put a stadium on top of it. Especially when you don't own the land or building you're building on top of. Take a second and think about what you're suggesting. The reason people responded with sarcasm is that the idea makes so little sense that they probably did not think you were being serious.

Unless you're from Omni Corp and you're going to use your plans for New Detroit as a baseline.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Sorry but you're wrong. This dates back to 2000 but still.

I thought the garages were bankrupt and now under control of the city(might be wrong on this). The elevator company is privately owned and would love the $.
There are buildings over the FDR from 68th to 72nd that were built as an afterthought. Lets not leave out the United Nations thats built over the FDR. There are thousands of units built over the Cross bronx exp. as an after thought
Maybe i'm from a different generation where Americans looked for an solution. Whats our state motto?
