Stadium Discussion

Does anyone seriously think that they will just play at Yankee Stadium for good?

What if it turns into a DC United situation where they are stuck for a long, long time? Idk I want this team to work, but seems like the stadium needs to happen soon for that to happen. Based on what I heard, I'm not optimistic at all

Well, shit. Guess I'll just go ahead and become a cosmos fan.

I hate to break it to everyone, but its come to my attention that NYCFC doesn't even have a short list of target sites. They have nothing going right now. Really sad

I have to agree with this. Seems like they have nothing identified or any sort of plan.

I hope that I am completely wrong on this but I have little faith in this franchise or believe anything the front office says.

After the claims made by the front office to being an authentic team and not being a marketing trick for Manchester City and then folllowing up with the uniform debacle, Lampardgate, club officials staying quiet about this for days after, continuing with tweets about Lampard's continued success for MCFC, an Executive leaving right before the start of the season, no 3rd DP to make up for choosing not have Lampard at the start of the season, stadium policies on SGs and No Stadium Plan has left me pessasmistic to anything they say or do.

I may be too critical of every move they make, but as a paying customer I feel like I do have a right to do so. Again, I hope I'm wrong about the stadium plan but I do have serious doubts.

With apologies to all of our Garden State friends, I always think of this joke from Futurama when I think about a stadium in Jersey:

The show really liked to abuse Jersey:

I think the point of those articles is that publicly financing those stadiums does not create value from the municipality's perspective -- not that they don't do good things for the neighborhood. If privately financed, there is a net positive benefit.

Except when teams threaten to leave. There is a net negative to Massachusetts had the Patriots moved to Hartford, CT. There is a net negative to the Sonics moving to Oklahoma City. What those studies have mistakenly overlooked is a correct baseline to use. Often times the conversation isn't no stadium or new stadium. It's no stadium... No team. The Rams are about to leave St. Louis for LA. Unless they get a new stadium.

I agree with you about the politicians and owners.

Thank you! Can I offer a little South Bronx hospitality? I am feeling bad for my former reply. Are you planning to come to see any of the games @ Yankee Stadium? If there is no snow or some weather disaster, I am planning on being there for the opener , can I buy you a drink? or hot dog or whatever the concession stands may have . I am not too familiar with the bars around the area so cannot know for sure where? If you are make a suggestion please .

There are two points of view on the Bronx and high end development.

Pro- transportation makes it desirable.
Con- ton of projects and crime.[/QUOTE

It just came to my attention:I take exception with your perception of the Bronx.
I have lived most of my life in the South Bronx and in my childhood never ever saw anyone -adult or teenager smoke pot in the street or in front of me. And Contrary to “Fort Apache” never ever saw a prostitute or pimp in my neighborhood in the street area in one of the scene the movie portrays. The area was not pretty because there were many factories and it also was home to part of the garment industry. My mother, my teen sister and many cousins and aunt worked there too.

As for crimes , some of the most heinous crimes have happened in the most rich exclusive areas of the USA. At this moment I can recall 2 of those. One in Massachusetts: The Skakel murder, who is related to the Kennedy's . The second one is the "Preppy Killer "Robert Chambers: somewhere in upper West Side of Central Park of Manhattan.

As for projects even low income people deserve a home some where.

Has there been any thought about L.I.C. along Newtown Creek near the Pulaski bridge, say along Borden?

1) great little neighborhood is within walking distance...Vernon/Jackson, with good bars and restaurants.

2) the area south of LIE is separated from the neighborhood by the highway, providing some protection for local residents. Plus, south of LIE is an industrial area a la Willets Point, which makes it more politically palatable, and probably easier to negotiate property acquisition.

3) Existing highway infrastructure: Easily accessible off the L.I.E. with a little exchange work to get an on/off ramp onto Borden Ave around 21st St. Central from all directions...from Bx & points north via RFK or Whitestone to GCP to BQE; from Brooklyn/SI via BQE; from Manhattan right out of the midtown tunnel or 59th St bridge; from East Queens/LI you can take the 495.

4) Great mass transit accessibility as-is. Metro North to GCS and your 1 or 2 stops on the 7 train. Bronx or Manhattan, east side or west side lines take you to the 7, and again, you're right there. Brooklyn G train gets you walking distance. LIRR goes right to Hunterspoint or LIC terminal.

No other location save Manhattan is as mass transit friendly for people coming from all directions. It is way better for mass transit purposes than the Bronx, which is a full trip into city center and then back out of city center, for anyone coming from queens/bklyn/LI (which is about half the population). Bronx works great for mass transit if you're in the Bronx, Manhattan, or Westchester, but not otherwise.

Just to follow up, the reality is that NYC transit was built on a hub and spoke model. The closer the club can get to the hub the easier the stadium will be to get to for the largest number

What time of day is the LIE accessible to anything?. manhattan is to expensive, the 9.2 acre mudpit site was bought for $630 million years ago.The team will build in the bronx as originally planned or else build closer to the STH and future $. That would mean Yonkers or New Rochelle or White Plains , something along the New haven or Harlem lines. Long Island is dead as far as sports fans. MLS wants families and thats not Brooklyn. Queens is out of the way for Westchester and Fairfield county fans. Unless they build it on floating docks and move it from borough to borough

Would that make us NYSFC?

maybe but i would bet that many of the teams in Europe that have a city in their name are outside of that city. its the same here NYRB and NYJ and NYG play outside of the city limits . I think the San Francisco 49s now play 25 miles from San Francisco
