Stadium Discussion

just put it anywhere where its not too industrial-y...have you been to red bull arena? the place seems like its built in a warzone, or chernobyl...if they have to i guess they can build it somewhere like that but only if they plan on building bars/restaurants right by it....thats been the plan at red bull arena since it opened in 2010 and theres still just gravel lots infront of the arena...makes the place feel very dismal

I think that's right on point. I would go even farther and say I believe they are pretty far along on a location and we will probably get an announcement mid-season (knock on wood we have one!). Edelman was one of the real forces behind founding NYCFC and a veteran real estate pro. MCFC's new training facility is his doing. When it comes to team/organization building you probably want him behind the stadium project, just goes to show how hard it is to get one done in NYC. However, unless it's Pier 40 or equivalent I'll always be bitter this location was passed up. But then what's football/soccer without a bit of cynicism? ;)

I think this is correct. I also think the location will be totally unexpected. Not the GAL site, nor the Aqueduct, nor Pier 40.

The majority of stadiums are built in industrial/crap areas because industrial/crap areas are highly accessible areas. The location of our stadium probably won't be pretty either. Citi Field has been planning a bunch of bars around the stadium too but it's still just surrounded by chop shops. It will be interesting to see how this develops and what the plans are because usually it is a very long process.

Not sure why I am bothering, but you don't see a difference between extending a platform over 4 lanes of traffic that are already below grade and building a stadium over a pre-existing, above-ground level building?

Although your idea about offering the elevator company guy some money could just work...

your probably right but if they do build it over the elevator company and parking lot your buying the 1st round. If they don't i'm buying you 3 rounds[/QUOTE]

I'm buying the first round either way -- name the time and place!

I was told by club 10 acre minimum in their RFP.

I'm in a different line of work than you but an RFP is an RFP. If they went to RFP and your proposal was considered and then rejected, our fans should be VERY VERY excited that a decision has been made and at worst, they are now negotiating with the current property owner. That's a wonderful sign.

I thought RFP meant, Renegotiating Frankie's Promise

It wasn't public RFP. Though, I also was hardly the only one with those criteria either, and I was in direct contact with the correct people. I won't divulge how many sites they looked at, because it was told to me in confidence, but believe me they did their due diligence. Anyway, I met those criteria full on based on what I showed you all. It's been considered and rejected. I agree, I think we can all get a little excited. However, that's only conjecture. Maybe something about my site (such as aquistion costs or timing) were not right and they still have not nailed something down yet... I'd like to believe the former and hope we have news by Summer. Till then we have some games to keep us busy!

I will say this, however. Usually when you go to RFP, you don't have a solution in mind. Not when you are a private organization. Public organizations, again like a municipal pension, are required to request bids. They might have a preferred vendor, but they still need to solicit others. A sports franchise would have no such requirements.

So what does this mean? There isn't some conspiracy in the works over the Bronx site. They're really looking for a different solution if a better one is available.

Adam's point that there very well could be an agreement in place or very nearly in place definitely makes a lot of sense.

I compete via RFP regularly, and you don't start getting notification of not being awarded the work unless the opportunity no longer exists. Typically, that's because the party making the RFP have decided on another option. In my business, it almost always means that a contract is in place with another party, as they don't want to start telling people "no, thanks" and end up without a supplier. I have no idea if that would be common practice in CRE, but it's probably not too different.

Of course, I'm assuming, again, that Adam wasn't blackballed for having some component of his proposal that either destroyed its viability or the club saw as simply untenable. I'm also assuming they didn't just cancel the RFP (which does happen) because that wouldn't make any sense in this situation.

While we wait, can we post pictures of stadiums around the world for ideas of what people want our stadium to look like? I think that would be interesting.

I'll play along. The question is what's the size of the stadium we are comparing to? Need to find stadiums between 25,000 and 35,000 around the world.

Don't wanna be a buzz kill but I'd rather not. This topic is too important, when I check this thread I want it to be meaningful discussion about the team's progress with the stadium
I agree. There are other active threads for stadium ideas and features.
