Melinda Katz State of the Borough speech is up if you guys want to listen.

Section where she talks about a stadium is here:

She mentions the new Willets Point Transportation Hub right before the stadium. A ferry to the match also sounds bad ass. Couldn't do that in the Bronx. But they better have a bar on-board!

A ferry option would be terrific.

It's actually doable at all the sites still on the board. GAL is relatively close to the Harlem River, although its not clear how easy it would be to put a dock there that would shuttle people over the train line and street that hug the river. Same is true of the other S. Bronx site that is just down river a bit and right on the water.

In Willets, there is already a marina on Flushing Bay that is fairly close to Willets Point, and it should be easy to put something new in even closer. It might also be possible to put something on the Flushing River, although I don't know about depth and whether it would be considered okay to build along the shore or even whether you could get people over or under the Van Wyck.

Of course, nothing will be as good for this as the Fresh Direct site, which is right on Newtown Creek and therefore a really easy trip from a huge portion of the city.

I didn't listen to Katz's State of the Boro, but I'm watching her on NY1 with Errol Lewis, they spoke about the Willets Point thing, he goes "blah blah affordable housing, blah blah, but what about the rest of the acres?"
She responds "I've made no secret that I want a soccer stadium at Willets point, but we need community input."

Obviously not direct quotes.

Looks like a decent draft in the Flushing River Creek. Much better than Flushing Bay.

I believe there is already a dock there. SeaStreak and Waterway both previously ran ferry service to Yankee games although both have since discontinued those services.

Wow, we’re going full bathymetry charts now? I never want to hear anything about lawyers again!

(Also, as cool as that would be, you would need a strong stomach considering the stench of raw sewage that still wafts out of the creek)

Map of the 6 acres vs. 17 acres. I don't know the accuracy of it though.
6 acres:

vs 17 acres (which does not include the first six-acre section):

This stadium and site and the rendering used in the SOTB looks larger than RBA. Can you put both RBA and MetLife in that same spot and see how they each fit? Maybe a 40,000 seat SSS if we know if one (doesn't have to be in the US).

The one I did last year has a SSS in pretty much the exact position as the one right above your post. I don't have a file with a movable MetLife stadium here at work but do have it at home and can set it up tonight if you'd like.
