Look. Sports teams in NY generally have lower-count stadiums. MSG? ~20k. Barclays? 20k. Nassau Coliseum? (REBUILT, mind you) 14k. Even NJ's RBA has just 25k. If a 25k soccer stadium is coming to the city, with more capacity than any other stadium in the city, it ain't for a minor league team.

It's not surprising to me that this thread is currently repeating old arguments. But what still amazes me at least a little is that it's being done as if it wasn't ever discussed before. PP 744-745. One month ago.

ETA: Also, some people are on opposite sides of their former selves.

Guys - if they do build a stadium on that spot, it will be for us. David Villa isn’t bankrolling a community development project.

Sterling and Related are. It’s just a matter of which one.

You may be right. But Villa doesn’t have to bankroll the stadium either, he can simply sign a long term lease to use while the developer builds/owns it.

Cincy has the Bengals and Reds?

trash teams, bengals are a wildcard team at best it seems. i think the reds only had one playoff run in like last 20 years. long gong are the days of the big red machine

edit: i recall some pessimists say at the time that they did well because the reds were bad and bengals not doing well either in past few years, i dont know how true that is. but made it sound like they not as hard core

FCC drew 30k in USL. Maybe they build it with an eventual push for MLS in mind.

ultra cheap tickets help too. and promoting with the college im sure that helps too. even their new stadium is gonna be 25-26K

Maybe they have a smarter business model with affordable tickets and marketing to the college - there’s no rule that tickets have to be excessively expensive or certain demographics are ignored.

Yes but we already know who the developer is. And the developer is the one we’re in bed with. They aren’t building a stadium for David Villa.

no but you cant expect $5 tickets at a "student section" in YS. if they can still do that in their new stadium then more power to them

That’s a straw man argument.

NYCFC has a particular business model regarding STH and attendance, that they signed off on and implemented, that over a five year period looks like crap.

FCC has decided on a different business model and so far their implementation looks much more robust.

I think every expansion team from now will try to emulate the LAFC/ATL Model, which has clearly worked amazingly well.

its a baseball stadium ( an expensive one at that) with shitty views in a city where we are really picky with stuff. VS a football stadium that has better views and has partnership with a college that can get more people in.

of course they will do better just for the simple fact of the venue and their partnership with a university.

i mean the closest thing nycfc could of done maybe is partner with columbia university and try to modify their stadium for our use. and have students sections etc. and then im sure peoeple will still say in nyc what a shitty place to have games in because thats how new yorkers are.

its two cities different cultures, we are limited with YS. just because something works in one city doesnt automatically mean it will work here. new york has so many segments you cant have one plan like you can have in a cincy. and even sports wise the city will never be united. there is almost two of every sport.

they roll the dice with their plan. its shitty, but the venue dont help.

You can afford $5 seats when you have your own stadium that sells luxury boxes for $80,000 a pop.

Feel free to keep up with the straw man arguments and making excuses for how the club operates with an awful business model. The fact they play in a baseball stadium is on them and them alone and they pulled the trigger knowing the implications.

and you can feel free believing this fantasy that they can sell out two levels of YS on bi weekly basis in NYC. with shitty views and netting

no baseball stadium. no team in nyc, unless metlife as an option and that would of been worse.

EDIT: im in bleachers so im fine and still fine as long as prices dont go way up which it has not in two years, i damn well knew what i was getting myself into with YS as venue.

Please show me where I said that? If you can’t, then drop it. Otherwise, you’re just putting words in my mouth that I never wrote nor alluded to.
