Stadium Discussion

You know what. Maybe it's a good thing that a shitstorm is starting again about the stadium so that the suits crank up the heat and get it done ASAP. We haven't heard a fucking thing in months. Is that a good or bad thing?
I think it's a good thing. They're working behind the scenes and aren't relying on leaks

I know I'm late to the thread but I still feel that somewhere in flushing meadow neat the area of the pool of industry would have been great but I love that area for the stadium what if they put the stadium in Willets Point right across the street from Citi field. I just feel in the summer when everything is going it would be an awesome place to be baseball, soccer and later on tennis; would be a very unique area in the city. Already has the public transportation and you could fix the area up and build bars and a nice hotel for traveling fans, plus i feel a supporters march up 126th would be pretty cool Just my opinion and i guess its my bias as I live so close to the area as well

People will want the here and now when they imagine building this somewhere. This part will have people saying "hell no" because sometimes they say they'll add these things....and then never get to it for one reason or another...

I feel you on that the RBA is in the middle of no where still. McFadden's would be the only option if it was a here and now situation and their is an old dive bar right of Main street that I know of in the area

How hard is it to get to Flushing from central Brooklyn?
Driving is easy. Subway not so good. Either into Manhattan and back out to Queens, or into Western Brooklyn to the G train to the 7. Figure 1 hr ish, depending how you define "Central Brooklyn"

I know a lot of soccer fans/casuals who have still no idea that NYCFC exist. No matter the reason, it is awesome to be in the back pages of major NYC papers.

So thanks Daily News, Post and whoever for the free pub... no such thing as bad publicity. Anyone who is every reacting to this is not going to be a NYCFC/soccer fan. I wish I was not at work so I could listen to WFAN right now.

Yankee grounds crew are pretty good at getting the field ready and they haven't had a chance to touch it with all the snow we've had this winter. The snow on my block just melted 2 days ago and it's been there for over 6 weeks . We're also getting rain on Sat. I think they will do the best that they can for the home opener with what we've got. I don't think it will be perfect , it wasn't built for Football, but i think it will get better over time . JMO

Don't want to have a "bash the media" competition but that pic is clearly "scare" effect for NYCFC fans and moreso aimed at fans of the principal tenants. Unless I'm mistaken it was stated that it would take 3 days to transfer a baseball field into a soccer field. Now of course baseball hasn't started new season yet but do people think NYCFC and Yankee officials are complete idiots? Its obvious they are working within a designated and reliable timescale anything else would have been madness.

Think Kreis could have been shown a touch more respect than being referred to as "and NYCFC coach" in that headline. NYCFC's Kreis at least would have been a little more respectful.

It is gonna either be Satan Island, or US taking the former Cosmos land, and making it huge and beautiful. Shit why not just buy the fuckers and make Em our minor league affiliate

So last night I learned that a person I know was actually working for a consulting company hired to scout potential NYCFC stadium locations last year. We had a really great conversation. They were as interested in my side of the story as a fan as I was theirs as a consultant. Long story short, it's SO easy for us to just sit here, look at google maps and say, "here's some open space! Just build there!"

There is just SO much more behind the scenes beurocracy/studies that go into these things. They were working on the flushing meadows site. They worked on a study to figure out the impact of the Mets making a World Series run at the same time as NYCFC making a playoff run at the end. It sounded like a couple of factors that led to the failure were: 1) A fountain that community members did not want to see moved/destroyed. 2) Apperently there is some land owned by the military out there and they couldn't get the army core of engineers to reclassify small bits of land to be able to build something like a stadium on.

Really fascinating stuff. Stuff we will never understand as armchair constructors. I have to say, I am not confident in this stadium being built anytime soon after having this conversation.

Fascinating stuff. I never assumed it was as easy as finding open space and dropping in a stadium. Like you mentioned, so many studies have you be conducted. They have to see how a stadium will affect the community, traffic, environment, etc. Though, I never even considered the effects of the Mets and NYCFC being in the playoffs at the same time. Smart.

Agree with you that we're a long way from getting a SSS.
