Stadium Discussion

We just need to get over ourselves and build this already:

Fascinating stuff. I never assumed it was as easy as finding open space and dropping in a stadium. Like you mentioned, so many studies have you be conducted. They have to see how a stadium will affect the community, traffic, environment, etc. Though, I never even considered the effects of the Mets and NYCFC being in the playoffs at the same time. Smart.

Agree with you that we're a long way from getting a SSS.
Pretty much.

I also forgot to mention that they gave serious thought to Pier 40, but the piers themselves are in such dead shape that they would pretty much have to start from scratch down there. Neighbors were also not happy.

They worked on a study to figure out the impact of the Mets making a World Series run at the same time as NYCFC making a playoff run at the end.
Mets have better change of making the MLS Cup final than a World Series anytime soon. If you are worrying about that, than an SSS is never getting built :)

The fact that our SSS won't be in Flushing bums me out. That area has so much potential... not just for sports, but housing and entertainment in general. If anyone watches House of Cards... what we need to do is make Frank Underwood mayor of NYC. He would drive the bulldozer himself over some endangered gerbils to get a nice big campaign donation.

NYCFCs President was just on CNBC - looks like a SSS is at least 5 years away
I'm Sorry but Yeah of Course it is. This is New York, here is a reality check for everyone the City and State have Bigger things to worry about than a Stadium. Until the team wake up and realize the have to 100% fund the stadium themselves Find the area to build it and honestly make ALL the investment. It will still take 5 years.

Can someone post a video? Did he mean opening the stadium was 5 years away or starting the building phase was 5 years away?

Thanks for the link.
"We haven't put a date on it but within a 5-year window we would expect to be in and opening a brand new building."

No guarantee, by any means, but that's better than the original report of at least 5 years..

Yeah, I agree. People will focus on the words "five-year" but I think the operative word is "window". Could very well be three years.

This may well sound idiotic but why cannot the stadium be built over the road from the new Yankee stadium? Is something earmarked for Heritage Park or some other ideas for it. Clearly there was a stadium there once why not build over the original? Clearly something is blocking that idea, i was just wondering what.
