The key word throughout the email is “publicly.”

That’s telling us they are taking all of this out of the shadows. Even the most cynical amongst us have admitted that this will be meaningful when they’re holding meetings publicly. It seems like they’ve given us a timeline of a few months to begin those public conversations. If by Memorail Day, we haven’t seen evidence of public meetings, we are right to complain again

One thing that's encouraging is that this FO, and especially CFG, and even the Yankees, keep things so close to the vest, I'm sure they wouldn't throw this out there if they weren't certain this will go through.

I wish I was that optimistic at this point. I'm so cynical of the club after so many missteps since the start. I think this is a total CYA after the RBA announcement.

I'm not doubting the accuracy of it, but the timing is so suspicious.

Like someone else said (too lazy to look okay), if the club doesn't follow up by April/May, I'd say they haven't learned anything.

Given everything that has been confirmed recently by other sources and the team as to status, what more could they have said over the years? We have a dedicated team working full time on it, wow this is a Herculean endeavor here in NY, we almost pulled it off in 2017 but won’t give up, it’s disadvantageous to leak information at this stage, we are now close again and here is what comes next. More than that wouldn’t have made sense and it wouldn’t have satisfied those with the greatest mistrust.

They want a women’s team and more community use of the field, which I’m in full support of the first and uncertain of the second. Wonder what CFG’s thoughts are on that since they’ve passed on the notion of absorbing SkyBlue but have a committed Manchester team - assume that would be green-lit. Non-team use has the potential to wreck the field, but maybe they’d employ better grounds-crews than YS.

I would think Manchester vs New York would be different in terms of that and building a stadium - if it's a requirement and it gets us the stadium, I don't see CFG pulling out of that.

Community use of the field could be as simple as having high school games there -- feel like it would be a great spot for city HS soccer championships. I don't think you'd see youth teams playing there every day and I don't think it's reasonable to expect constant use of that nature, but hosting some HS games every once in a while at Villa Park probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

That’s why I said I’m undecided on the community part. If it’s just HS soccer championship matches, that’s pretty easy. What about HS Football? What happens with concerts? Their scope of what they want is pretty “loose” and not defined. They threw a lot of stuff out there and lumped it all together. Hell, as M moogoo pointed out, they also want part ownership in a privately funded project. Seems like a “we’re in total support of this but we kinda need a few things” type letter.

definitely a lot of questions and probably all questions they will be having to address during all the official meetings they'll be having in the near future. i don't envy them. unrealistic and irrational demands without justification seem like how things are done in this world. everyone wants something for nothing.

Lol

So the article said they want to be part owners... But the project, as far as we know, is gonna be privately funded. This is an example of asking for too much. Some stipulations for community use and stuff like that sure. But wanting a cut of profits? Am I reading that right?

No harm in asking -- I also think it's worth noting that they kind of have NYCFC by the balls. The team can't let this deal fall through now. So NYCFC might have to concede a few more community points than they otherwise would because they need the stadium more than the community does. This board has all the leverage, unless they don't have the power to nix the deal.

I wish I could get to own something that I had nothing to do with funding or building. Must be nice.

Yeah I was about to make that point. Seems pretty unrealistic. I wonder what the actual ask is going to be, because obviously they won't own any part of this stadium without paying into it.

When the Yankees were working on the deal for the new stadium, they created a fund ostensibly for the benefit of the local community. They then put control of that fund into the hands of local politicians who had influence over whether the project was approved. It's been reported that the funds were misused. The Yankees basically created a slush fund, gave it to the local pols, and washed their hands of it.

Pretty sure I read that the consortium is buying the property ($58m?) and then relinquishing it to the city to then be structured as a long-term lease. Everything goes into the city coffers and the city owns the Realestate, a huge win for them - in many ways, that’s already a massive quid pro quo, so not sure how the local group can justify ownership on top of what the city is getting.

BIDs are good! BIDs are non-profits that actually perform significant functions for the neighborhood -- I think you're confusing his request for a seat at the table for the development of the stadium and in determining the ongoing relationship with the neighborhood with a request for a material economic interest in the stadium.

We sometimes look at things from too high a view -- the aggregate effect on the economic entity known as NYC -- rather than looking at the direct impact on the people in the neighborhood who bear the most burden. As he pointed out in the video, the city might get a net financial benefit from property tax abatements, but it's hard to argue that the neighborhood does -- unless someone like local reps and BIDs maker sure it happens.

Unless you're talking about something else completely, it was a slush find, but not one that was put under control of local pols:
