Well we knew Adams would be mayor and Gibson is BX borough president. From what I remember she said she supports a stadium

It may be that the Yankees are waiting until the Adams administration arrives.

I think the overall thought is that an Adams administration would provide influence over EDC in order to likely give in to what the Yankees are looking for to some degree. Or at least more than what EDC is currently willing to do under de Blasio.

The tricky part to this is an Adams administration would have no influence over the bondholders, who were concerned about the updated language the Yankees provided to the balance lease term sheet. Perhaps that piece of it can be solved with more $$$ from Maddd. The original terms were that Maddd was to pay the bondholders $52.5m while the updated terms were at $46.25m. So perhaps going back to that original amount would be enough to assuage their concerns

Well, CFG didn't buy Harry Kane this transfer window, so I think they can fork over a measly $6.25M. What's that to ownership to get the stadium built? Pennies in hindsight.

You mean £4.7 M right? Even cheaper (I kid)

I still think the Bronx site happens. Save this post.

I certainly agree that news and rumors indicating a stadium plan is almost set are overblown in one direction, same as the news and rumors that it is dead is overblown in the other direction.

That said, I'm still not optimistic. If I gave these odds for the state of things on Jan 1, 2025 (three years from now), what would people take?

-150 No stadium plan
+225 GAL Elevator stadium plan announced
+1000 Other stadium plan announced

I would bet heavily on Other Plan because of the odds. I also think that GAL vs. Other Plan is much closer now (though I understand the 3 year deadline makes the latter longer).

I have this unfortunate feeling that the Yankees have soured on it and are throwing in wrenches to either kill it or buy more time to determine if cold feet can warm up again.

No idea what to believe at this point. There are so few places to build in either borough. Willets Point/Iron Triangle or Citi Field parking lot seem like the only places that would make sense. You got the 7 train right there and it's not too deep into Queens that it's going to turn off drivers from the northern suburbs.

Then again, Sims could jus be full of shit.

there was a question at the end of the Q&A asking Sims if he was concerned that moving to a Queens location would turn off fans from the Bronx/Westchester etc. and the response was along the lines of not that concerned which makes sense because 1) still has easy access to northern burbs through freeways and such and 2) there is a huge soccer community in Qns that could be more engaged with a stadium in their backyard.

heck, with a stadium in queens they could just bring Latin American teams for friendlies and sell out the stadium to make extra $$.

I will say this though, Sunnyside Yards or York College would probably be a deal breaker for me in Rockland. It's one thing to pull right off the Grand Central / Whitestone Expressway into a parking lot. It's another to have to navigate through local roads.

the vibe i get is that its a stalemate until one side gives up something. which does not look like its happening so its "dead".

sunny side is not terrible as its very close to bridges and big avenues like nothern boulevard/ Queens Boulevard. that being said i dont think it goes there at all.

I have the impression that although the Bronx is very diverse and the Mexican community is growing exponentially there (like everywhere in NYC really) it still doesn't match the diversity and Latin American soccer pedigree of Queens. If they were to open a stadium in Queens in, say, 2026, and bring in as a DP whoever is the affordable/aging Ecuadorian, Peruvian or Colombian star du jour, they would sell a lot of tickets, way more than in the Bronx.
