Oh man. I grew up on Jif which is definitely just a jar of sugar, but damn it was good. As a proper member of Team 50 I don't allow myself such joys anymore, but I remember it with love. Not sure how this absolute classic of a thread escaped my attention SIX YEARS AGO, but wanted to ask about a different peanut butter preference - sweetness.
I don’t like any sweetness in my peanut butter. I want just peanuts and salt. Some of the jars out there should be labeled “Sugar (or honey) with added peanuts”.
Please please please read the back of your Peanut Butter Jars. There is truly very very little sugar in them. I’ve always wanted a more savory peanut butter too. But damn there’s not much sugar even in there to begin with. A serving of Jif, is two table spoons and in a serving there’s only 3 grams of sugar, 2 of which are added sugar. There isn’t any reason to not enjoy it over 3 grams of sugar. But I do wish they didn’t add those 2 grams of added sugar.
I disagree. If you use a sweetened-with-sugar peanut butter that's like sprinkling an extra half teaspoon of sugar on your sandwich. Not saying it should be banned or that you shouldn't enjoy it, but that's a lot of sugar to add. Please please please read the back of your Peanut Butter Jars. Fair enough, I’m not really at the age where I have to think about those things. To me an extra half teaspoon seems like nothing. But to some that is a lot. My apologies for being ignorant.I disagree. If you use a sweetened-with-sugar peanut butter that's like sprinkling an extra half teaspoon of sugar on your sandwich. This is a good point. I guess with peanut butter, a little sugar can go a long way. Please please please read the back of your Peanut Butter Jars. There is truly very very little sugar in them. OK, after we all raid RJ Allen's pizza place for lunch we can pile back on the bus and head up there for dessert. Who's in!?!Not precisely the point of this thread but I went to one of the most popular hand made ice cream places in my part of Connecticut last night and I had a peanut Butter Oreo Sundae with Hot fudge and peanut butter sauce. I truly feel sorry for anyone with a peanut butter allergy because it was pure heaven lol.
It's great to hear that you've taken precautions and gradually introduced peanut butter to your daughter's diet. Peanut allergies can be a concern, and it's understandable that you wanted to ensure her safety. Mixing small amounts into her baby food was a wise approach to monitor any potential reactions.I'm all about the crunchy, but have been buying the creamy lately for my daughter. We started mixing very little amounts into her baby food at like 6 months, because I would have pretty much died if she was allergic to peanuts. Now, at about a year, I give her several spoonfuls a day. Her favorite is a mashed up banana with a scoop or two of peanut butter(Home) mixed in!
