I've never understood why so many people bitch about the PRO refs as some special class of bad when the Latin American refs are at least as clearly incompetent. Not only did they get it wrong, but they completely lost control of the situation.

Brazil reaped the whirlwind there, failing to capitalize on their domination of the match and then falling to an illegitimate goal due to lack of goal cushion.

But, that said, try to explain to someone trying to get into soccer why a team was just knocked out of a major tournament by an illegal goal and watch them go "fuck this sport". Sigh.

We also lose out on a possible semi vs Mexico or Chile in Chicago and get a much tougher Argentina in Houston IF we can get past Ecuador. Whatever, a QF win vs Ecuador will shoot us up the FIFA rankings more then vs Peru. Lemonade right?

PRO refs are just incompetent. But some of those Latin American refs are bought.

That too, but tonight was pretty much incompetence. Getting a call wrong is not incompetence. That happens to the best. Losing control of the situation and looking completely without confidence in your call is incompetence.

- playing Mexico or Argentina in the semis would be just as hard as each other.

Ecuador-Haiti sold well. I don't know if Peru has a big fan base to buy tickets but I am pretty certain Colombia does locally. Might not be a giant profit but I bet they sell for those what want to get rid of them.

I am pretty certain Colombia does locally.

I'll back that up. I've lived in two different regions of Queens over the past 14 years, and whenever Colombia plays a match there are huge numbers of Colombia jerseys everywhere. I'd bet the match gets serious turnout.
