USMNT Talk

Went to a Fulham match this past weekend against Hull city.

Tim Ream captained the side and looked solid but left injured within the first half hour after an awkward fall.

Antonee Robinson was the best player on the pitch for both teams picking up an assist on the second goal. Nice experience seeing two Americans leading a team overseas.

Robinson was a class above the others and should be playing in a top flight league in Europe.

Also the EFL Championship was faster paced than any NYCFC game I've seen. Curious how we'd fare against that level of competition.

Great stuff.

I remember that just before the pandemic, Robinson was all set to go to A.C. Milan on a big transfer. However, he failed the physical due to an irregular heartbeat. He was able to get that sorted out, but not before the pandemic threw everything asunder. This is the third transfer window after that. There was some talk last month about him moving back to EPL, but so far nothing.

Very jealous. I've always wanted to go to Craven Cottage. Mitrovic is an all time favourite of mine...
It's been great to see Tim Ream consistently provide for Fulham though <3

Every time I see SLV in a CONCACAF context I wonder what the hell Slovakia is doing there. FYI Slovakia is SVK. Eventually I will internalize it.

I've always seen Slovenia.
I have a public calendar for upcoming US national team matches and I never get this one right on the first try. And sometimes on the second. CRC's another one (Costa Rica).

Calendar's at

just read that there will be no VAR at CONCACAF WCQs ....

concacaf trying so hard to be the laughing stock of the international soccer world.

I can almost guarantee it's because of El Salvador being in the round. Though I wouldn't put it past panama or jamaica either. (in terms of their infrastructure)

This broadcast is challenging to watch. Thankfully the in-game fireworks are over!
The crowd was intense up until kickoff, now they are pretty quiet.

Embarrassing showing. Idgaf it’s concacaf. Idgaf it’s away. This group of players is supposed to be “different”

wow this was uninspiring.

Enough excuses about how road games are tough in CONCACAF. We are supposedly ranked No. 10 in the world, and we can't win at El Salvador? Please. Stop with the excuses. The excuses are why we are in this position, we always excuse these performances. At some point this national team needs to stop using excuses and start getting results.

El Salvador had more energy, more determination, more fight and better quality on the ball. How many times did our guys get stripped cause they were physically bodied of the ball or pressed by the el salvador players hunting in packs?

el salvador played as a team and they took it to us. our *star* guys couldn't handle it.

I agree that the reason why the USMNT only has one point now is because fans and media have said things along the lines of "winning on the road in CONCACAF is hard".

This team doesn't have any strikers at the moment. Altidore was our last good one but he hasn't been anything recently. We don't have that player like Dempsey or Donovan. I don't see Sargent becoming that. I don't see anyone currently in the pool that has that instinct or that class. I'm hoping we soon see Dike or Pepi or the likes relaly grow into a strong and instinctive center forward, because what we have right now just isn't it.

The sad thing is - we got beat at our own style in a way. The american athlete has always been more physical and hardworking than others in order to make up for the talent gap that has existed. Now, our team is stacked with kids with lots of talent but lack that bit of cutting edge. Some players still have it, but at the international level, a few players can't win you games.

I agree we needed a leader on the field. Tyler adams as captain doesn't make a lot of sense to me? The guy can cover ground and works super hard. But even he was getting stripped and was making poor decisions on the ball.

The main thing to me was the team was outworked and out-"teamed". el salvador were clearly more in sync and our guys just weren't. I remember one instance in the 2nd half where we were attempting to play out of the back and Ream passes to Adams who had a guy literally on his back. Adams was fouled as he tried to maintain possession, but when he got up you could see him screaming at Ream.. "wtf did you pass to me?!" and Ream gestured that he (Adams) was supposed to knock it wide first time. Just one of many instances where there wasn't enough sync between the players.

Personally, i didn't like the starting XI. But I think GB is honestly still trying things. Ream and Yedlin have no business in the starting XI otherwise, imho.

I just think our national team culture is too OK with settling. "Sure, a point is fine, it'll put us on a path to qualifying." We let good enough be good enough, when the goal is to be good. I dunno, maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I just don't think we've learned the lessons from Trinidad.
