USMNT Talk

This guy intensely disagrees with you that the coach makes you intense.

Im very interested to see our next WCQ games.

I think we have 3 STs (Wood, JoMo, and Altidore) and only one or two spots depending on formation. Do guys like Julian Green and ArJo get callups?

Where does Fabian Johnson fit in? Does Pulisic stay on the left wing or does he move centrally? CMs? please no more JJJ. Where does Bob Bradley want us to drop off the corpse of Michael Bradley in Swansea?

I think I have decided that I'm okay with the fact that our team needs JJJ. Pair a true DM with him, and let him go 'til the wheels fall off. He's just far and away the best CM in the pool, even now. I think if he can go, we have to ride him. I don't want that to be the case, but it looks to be.

I'm just going to throw this in here that the US Women's U20 team (with Mallory Pugh) lost in the semifinals of the World Cup to North Korea. 2-1. 2016 is the worst year.

That game... ugh. They had some girl literally running around concussing our players and the ref didn't even issue a yellow until the 3rd time. If you think MLS refereeing is poor, give any women's tournament a watch. Makes MLS refereeing almost seem competent.

To counter balance any and all of the negative, anyone watch the USA u17s tear Portugal a new asshole (7-1) last night? Those kids can for real ball. Not a joke, not a "for the USA" relative scale. They walk on the pitch like they think they are Real Madrid and proceed to play like it. They are cocky as hell. Love them.

Andrew Carleton may be a better MLS player at 17 than Jack was last year. Assuming Tata plays him.

Guys, we have an absolutely insane amount of potential. It's not happenstance that they are all coming around after we hosted WC 94 and launched MLS.

We will win a World Cup in my lifetime. In fact, I'll suggest we win more than one in the next 50 years.

I think once we really have peak dev and peak performance rolling through, we'll be one of the top 5-8 teams every year so long as the coach is competent. It's truly a numbers game, and no one will produce more talent than us. We're limited by the number of kids who take a bite at the apple, but we're getting so much better at giving most everyone at least one.

And this ignores what the u20 kids are doing. CP delivering world class numbers (no really, he's statistically one of the most dangerous players in Europe right the fuck now) and Josh Perez looking like a great talent (GOOCH DIDNT MAKE THAT SQUAD!!!! And tab shit the bed!)

Then look what Mckinze Gaines, Weston McKinnie, Haji Wright are all doing in Germany.

We have fucking players coming through. Are we the best in the world yet? Fuck no. But if you think there is some massive difference between anyone outside top 6-8 or so and us, you're just fucking wrong.

Bruce is going to deliver us into a WCF quarter. Mark it. Fucking Costa Rica isn't a better team than us on a man to man basis. Mexico is a little now. But they are always weak mentally and their gap is narrowing. Don't believe it? Look at how hard they chase duals now relative to the past. They have US born starters now.

It's truly a matter of when. Not if. And I say it is on the express track.

Wait a second. You think you can write one positive post and even up your account on all the negative?

What? What?

ETA: how could you not be pumped about our youth right now? I mean poor Tim Weah, the cream of PSG's academy who seemingly scores a brace for breakfast everyday, has to scrape for minutes on that U17 squad.

Also, watch out for this George Acosta kid. He still looks a little raw, but he looked to have the vision to match Koochstache's packaged with pace and athleticism. And the captain/striker Sargent looks like Bobby Wood 2.0. He set up one goal by chasing down a long ball over the top where his first touch was a back heel off the half volley right to his on-rushing teammate at the top of the box who proceeded to slice his shot a bit wide where the left winger just abused his defender and hit L2+O to slot it in. Oh, and Sargent happened to have a first time back heel goal, as well.

These kids were scoring PlayStation goals. They're on again today. Highly recommend catching the YouTube stream from the US Soccer feed. I think our NYC boys have a match today, too. Might try to catch that one, as well.

Great stuff. We should maybe have a separate thread for U17s and U 20s.

Speaking of U 17/20s...

I hear more about 18 year old Joshua Perez on Italian football sites than American. He just made his Fiorentina debut.

Anyone have any thoughts on a NT call up?

He was one of the standouts along with Pulisic at last year's u17 WC. He's been under the radar at the club level, no doubt, mostly because there's not a lot of English-language coverage of Calcio A, much less youth teams. He's been crushing it at the youth level there in the short time he's been at the club. I follow his thread at Bigsoccer pretty closely, and he's a player I've liked a lot.

I don't think he'll get a call-up in 2017 unless it is to a random Euro-based friendly squad. If JK were the coach, I'm sure he'd get a call-up for the pre-WC camp. As it stands, I'm hoping he gets one from Arena, although I'd bet he'll have to be getting more regular 1st team minutes for that to happen. Then again, maybe not. He's well known in US Soccer, so it's not like he's under the radar for them, and I'm sure Tab will be in Bruce's ear about him.

For the rest of this season, I'm really hoping he can come close to replicating the CP's 2nd half of last season. I also want Zelalem to get a damn loan at Christmas. Just because he can't start at Arsenal doesn't mean he can't help the US pretty damn soon.

U17 v Turkey being streamed live now on FB. Turkey up 1-0. I came looking for magic, but I guess I'm just a USMNT jinx...

Good write up MM. That's what I was looking for. I know they speak highly of his skill set in Italy. Fiorentina coach expects him to play more going forward. That's saying a lot about his talent level for a 17 year old American to see the pitch on a top half of the table Italian team. Plus the league is going through a youth movement with the likes of 16 yo Moise Kean on Juventus and 17 yo Donnarumma on Milan. So that should help him see more time too.

I'm excited about CP & Perez.
