USMNT Talk

It should be monochrome and can't be red white or blue, so a big ass giant light green star on a dark green background with smaller light green stars on the shoulder and sleeves is as good as I could hope for,

USA U17 team concedes an equalizer in the 90th minute and then get knocked out in penalties. Carrizo came off the bench and was one of several people at fault for the equalizing goal. He then missed our final penalty to concede the match.
Keeping the old Maxi tradition alive! /s

Good win tonight against a decent Paraguay side. And I'm especially glad Poch had such good things to say about Gio after the match.

Wild scrum toward the end. Very, very CONCACAF. 🃏

If we're going to have any real chance at the World Cup, he must start.
Why is he still getting minimal playing time for his club? Has he been hurt again? Yesterday was his first start in 2 months.
I know there have been injuries but he's on track to play less than 1,000 minutes for the 5th year in a row and I thought he was healthy now. How does he start for the USMNT and play well but can't get any purchase with any club or coach? I'm glad the Berhalter era is over so this isn't a very stupid argument any more. But I remain befuddled, and skeptical.

Same here. I guess Polanski doesn't rate him. I don't understand why. Last match, Gio subbed on for Florian Neuhaus vs. Köln at home at 75' with the match already well in hand. But if I had Neuhaus and Reyna standing in front of me in a pickup game, I'm grabbing Gio, hands down.

Not a knock on Neuhaus. He's a fine player, and for all I know, he's a better fit in a 5-3-2. I just don't believe in leaving my thoroughbreds on the bench just to accommodate a philosophy or formation — if that is, in fact, what Polanski is doing.

I'm with Don Carlo: get the best studs out there and then figure out how to use them.

So it seems Reyna has been hurt since September with a thigh injury. I asked AI to generate a list of his injuries over the years. Almost every one is some variety of muscle/groin/thigh soft tissue. At this point either he's extremely unlucky and this could change, or he's so prone to these injuries they happen more than annually. Least charitable possibility is he's soft in the really insulting sense of that word. I prefer to think he has some weird physio condition where he can perform at a super high professional level when fit, but he's unnaturally susceptible to soft tissue injuries of the groin and thigh.

Regarding the World Cup, to me it's like the NYCFC stadium and early 2027. You use them if they're ready but plan for them not to be.

I'd be curious what his personal regimen is for taking care of himself and warming up properly, etc. if he's lazy in any of those aspects, he could definitely be making his injury susceptibility much worse.

If he's doing everything right then it's probably just bad luck and bad genetics, which is very unfortunate
