You know what I find special about our fan base?

We also have a number of fans, that really do not have ties to the NYC area, that live outside of the US but for some reason or another gravitated to NYCFC. Maybe it was David Villa? Maybe it was Lampard? Maybe it was Pirlo? Maybe it was CFG, and fans of Man City and Melbourne etc, have become NYCFC. Whatever the reason is, I find these fans to be great such as our boy Falastur.

I think I've mentioned this before on this forum as an Italian-Australian NYCFC supporter, but it probably comes down to the fact that to me NYC is the greatest city in the world !!

As a kid i always followed the Yankees, I got into American Football a few years back and was always going to pick a NYC team to follow, chose the Giants because of their long history etc, not much of a ice hockey fan or basketball fan but do like the Brooklyn Nets secondary logo so i buy their gear just to rep the city !!

I've followed MLS since its inception and I'm a fan of the league in general but never really supported the Metrostars for some reason and I did follow the Red Bulls stadium process pretty closely but never gravitated to them. First team i really followed was the Whitecaps after visiting Vancouver in 2010(and still follow as my west team) and now follow NYCFC even more, hence why I'm on this forum.

Like i mentioned before, I think the appeal of the city itself is what helps fans gravitate to NYCFC. That and the fact CFG seem pretty serious about it makes it easy to follow them. Pirlo being on the team is a nice bonus.

Its been nearly 11 years since I last visited NYC, which is far too long. Im really hoping to make it in June to watch the Copa America, NYCFC and the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium.

Here's hoping for a great season. Excelsior !!

Great stuff Ferrari. Thanks for sharing and again your situation proves my thinking and why I think our fan base is not like any other.

Another thing that I have enjoyed about being an NYCFC fan is the camaraderie among strangers. If I have on my Eli Manning jersey while headed to a bar on a Sunday and see another Giants fan - it doesn't illicit any sort of belonging to another fan that you may pass by on the street. However, all winter while rocking my NYCFC beanie other fans have struck up conversation or expressed their love for the club as well.

My mom told me she saw a woman at work with an NYCFC shirt on and asked her if she was a supporter as well - turned out she got the shirt on sale at Modells, but the point is that when you see someone in our colors you are inclined to acknowledge them.

I have 2 stickers on the back of my car, Our logo and a Dive flag. at least once a week some passes me and hits there horn and gives me a thumbs up. I work in Port Chester which is about 60% people from Mexico ,Central and South America.
If I have on 1 of our shirts I get at least 1 comment a day walking around.

Feel sad to say, living on north shore of LI, I have the NYCFC magnet on my car and wear the scarf all winter and have yet to run into anyone here in our fanbase.

You're in Kosmos territory.

I live in the south shore of Long Island and rarely see our fans out here.

Cosmos country? Is the population 2000-4000? The cosmos are as irrelevant as any pub club in this country.
I just assume that since they are fielded in LI that their entire fan base of 1-2K, save the token self-righteous bozos from the city, is also drawing from the immediate incorporated land base.

It's funny. When I see other NYCFC fans in the City, I'll make a comment and get a positive reaction. I also live on Long Island, and I have actually bumped into a few other fans. When I made a comment I get a look of "why are you talking to me".

Definitely love this fan base. I attended the first Metrostars match and probably a total of 5 matches overall. Literally haven't' paid attention to MLS for 19 years.

When I heard from a friend that NYCFC was forming, Villa as the first player and affiliated with ManCity; I started to pay attention.

Since attending the home opener last season, I have never been so passionate about any club. Our own legitimate soccer/football; club representing NYC.

Yeah, while everybody was dying for local soccer to latch on to, it was impossible to take the Metrostars seriously with the total ineptitude radiating downward - Charlie Stillitano wanting to be the AC Milan of MLS, the curse of Caricola, an ever-injured Tab Ramos, Fat Tony, a roster of less than pub league players, and that god-awful Nike jersey. Those first few games pretty much killed any interest I had for them.

I'm on the South shore as well. I've had a slightly better experience - seen a few cars with the logo, a local diner with our logo, and have met probably 5 or so people around town that follow the team. I live in Patchogue and one of the bars in town is listed as a pub partner (edit: WAS a pub partner, looks like they removed that this year). The biggest surprise was when I was finally able to make it to my first home game last year (Aug v. Montreal, Lamps debut), the LIRR was crawling with fans. Every stop had a few, and then you get to the transfer in Jamaica and sky blue was everywhere.

There's fans out here, and I think we'll see more this year. between my wife, my wife's college roommate and her husband, and my brother and his friend, I've planted seeds for 5 real fans, all of which made it to at least one home game last year, and are coming with us to the home opener. My father is next. I can't imagine I'm the only one who's done that.

I live out in bayshore. There's a pub in Babylon that has a wingert (he's from that town) jersey hanging from their wall and they had viewing parties for the away games. I wonder if they still do now that he's gone lol. The lirr is always pretty packed with fans which is cool to see. I might have taken at least 15 people to games last season, but I can't say that all became fans for life but at least 4 of them I know will continue to support the team.

Quick question to my American friends

Would you say that NYCFC is one of the most supported teams in the MLS?

Im guessing LAG, Toronto, Seattle and Portland would complete the top 5

I think you have to throw Orlando in the mix as well. Last year they consistently had many fans filling up their stadium and seem to be doing it again this year
