Home - 04/19 Portland

We need to learn how to finish. Also this whole tik-tak in front of the box makes me desperate because all you need to do is just kick the ball to goal. There's no need to have to take EVERY defender and be alone in front of goal. Possession and passing is perfect. These little things will make perfection

Khiry lost the ball in key area because he waits too long with the ball exposed. That's only going to get better with time. I'm upset at the result but the team looks dynamic. We just need to learn how to play like that with Villa and Nemec on the pitch. We're wayyyy too predictable when they're there. #ExpansionBlues

Wait, so now everyone is on the Brovsky is the worst player in MLS? Sorry, I pulled that boat out of the docks 4 weeks ago. And everyone now sees Velasquez is freaking awful? Yep. That one has been gone a while, too.

Calle is the only player of definite MLS starter quality we ran out in our first eleven tonight. Shelton is an improvement for us, but he wouldn't be for anyone else. He is really slow with decisions near the goal.

I am going to actually melt down if we don't get Brovsky off the fucking field. And tonight, he played his best game for us. Nevertheless, he's still absolutely horrible. How did we manage to get no one worth a shit from the expansion draft? We got our asses kicked in the offseason.

Grabavoy has the speed of thought sometimes, but...yeah...

Going into this season with one DP and hoping random guys who never hacked it elsewhere would somehow have the light come on isn't a strategy. It's a hope. And you know what they say about hoping and wishing into one hand and pissing in the other.

so frustrating how bad we are in the final third, yeah mix and villa were out but still no reason we shouldn't have been able to score one against portland.

But for the awful result, it was an exciting game to watch live in all its imperfection. And even from the third baseline, the supporter sections sounded like they were clicking and same for the folks on the other end behind the goal. Great and energetic crowd for a chilly Sunday night in April. The product will improve and the crowd game is rapidly developing. I'm disappointed with the result but still somehow excited.

I am feeling absolutely distraught after this match. When we failed to score in the first half I knew right then and there we'd lose. It was like watching a fucking car wreck in slow motion. 6 pts from 21 is a disaster.

I wish I had the optimism some of you do. Sure, they dominated possession, but at the end that didn't mean squat. They have no idea how to finish. The circus show they put on in the second half in the box was pathetic. No one wanted to take the shot. Just passing it aimlessly around. They still continue to serve up awful crosses to no-mans land.

Velasquez is a chicken without a head. He's quick but runs around doing nothing.

Shelton has completely lost his spark and confidence.

What happened with Mix? Got to the stadium and he's not even on the bench.

This team just isn't good. Simple as that. They're not going to get better with this group and they can't always rely on Villa.

We're a bad team. We are poorly constructed and would be even if we had Lampard. Honestly, we're about to get run off the pitch against Seattle and RBNY.

It's a complete mess. There's not a single club in MLS with a worse constructed roster. We have literally TWO MLS caliber midfielders on a squad supposedly built with a diamond in mind. And one of them hardly sees the pitch.

We're a year and at least 2 *new* DPs (as in additional and/or not the same) from competing for a playoff spot.

I know many are new to MLS. I hope you're starting to see that it's not a sham of a league. If you don't have a quality DM and some competence at the back, you'll pay.

Even with Villa and Mix, our squad is hamstrung by a cheap front office unwilling to put their money where their mouth is. It's sickening.

If they were throwing out people for profanity tonight, all of 215 would have been gone. Brovsky got cussed up and down the field. And there were more than a few WTFs about us not shooting the damn ball. To hell with Villa. We need an ugly striker - give me a poacher with some grit. We desperately need a Dempsey-type player to feed in the final third. If he has a little speed, all the better.

The fact that NYCFC has to play without Mix, Villa (& that other DP) is just unacceptable.

Does Seattle play without Dempsey and Martins or Orlando without Kaka? Come on!
I typed my post above before I saw yours. I think your post gets st the same point I'm making.

Seattle has a guy like Neagle.

I know Ramos got sent off last night, but how does Orlando get someone like him and we have a Brosky? It really looks like we (and the almighty CFG) got their asses handed to them in the offseason. Hell, who needs the CFG scouting network. I could've told you most of the guys on our team blew furry rat nads after a couple of games, and I don't cost very much at all.

I'd like to bring up my favorite example one last time. Last year between May 25th and July 29th the New England Revolution earned ZERO points out of 24. They then started to get it together, then they got Jones and went on to MLS Cup.
I want us to play better, but i'm going to enjoy watching Jason Kreis put the pieces together until it starts clicking. It's going to happen.

Brovsky was good on Sunday. He made several great tackles, including one in the 18-yard box in which he had to be perfectly precise in order not to concede a penalty. He also made a goal-line save after Saunders had come off his line to make a punch.

Brovsky has been playing well since he was been moved from left back to right back. And Sunday was his best game yet.

The magnificently mustachioed one (and the rest of the defence) is not one of this team's problems.
