2021 MLS All-Star Game (2020 Cancelled)

The rest of the league's fans has a bias against our players. They see us, understandably, as that sheikh owned team playing in a baseball stadium and generally don't watch our games against neutral opponents. I was shocked by the number of fans on Bigsoccer and Twitter who had very little to no idea who James Sands was until now.
I don't think other fans not knowing much about Sands has to do with bias against our players, more than it has to do with James Sands is a boring good player.

If he was a striker bagging goals, or an attacking midfielder assisting on a bunch of goals, he would have a lot more attention.

Instead, he's just an incredibly positionally sound, smart and instinctive DM/CB and how good he is, really isn't exciting to watch, therefore, creating less buzz/hype around him.

Similarly, Anton Tinnerholm is good at soccer because of his offensive ability as a right back, not his defensive ability.

Of NYCFC's regularly playing outfield players in the history of the club, I think Sands is the only one to have not scored a goal.

Turner, Bou, and Buchanan from New England (our opponent) have been selected for the All Star Game

So was Gil, but he's out 3+ weeks with an injury so he won't be playing in the ASG and likely won't be playing against us later this month.

Did they get rid of that foolish rule in which a player is suspended for 1 game if they skip the ASG, even due to injury?

just looking at the stats quickly one might think Jesus MEDINA! Is more deserving than Rossi and Vela. I honestly have not watched enough LAFC to say but their position in the table and goals/assists don’t compare to well…
Classic All Star stuff.

meanwhile the guy who was on track to have more than 20 assists this season was not selected. Ok.

(and yes I know it doesn’t matter now as Gil is injured and will not play anyway but still).

Arena winked winked so Gil would not be selected so that he can play in the game against NYCFC that weekend.

otherwise if Gil was selected for the ASG and couldn’t play, he’d not be eligible for the weekend game.

edit: and my conspiracy theory is shot down, carry on

so he cannot play in the game against NYCFC if he doesn’t play in the ASG.
He likely won't be able to play against NYCFC because he'll likely still be injured (assuming initial reports hold true)

I'm not sure what the rule is if he misses the games prior to the ASG. He missed last night, and the Revs have 4 more games before the ASG. If he misses all of those I'm not sure he has to skip the subsequent game. And as just noted, maybe he stays injured beyond our game.
