MLS Cup Playoffs 2018 - Conference Finals

Why are the second legs on Thursday night?
I figured it was due to programming on ESPN and FS1. But looking at ESPN's programming schedule, they should have been able to work in either an afternoon game on ESPN2 or a night game on ESPN. They have a couple of college bball games, but that's really the only live stuff they have going on, and the times should be able to be worked around.

FS1's website is really tough to see what's scheduled for Sunday evening, so I can't assess that situation (I could also be using their site wrong)

AWESOME. I don't give a shit who wins the cup although Atlanta losing would be the icing on the cake.

It's so bad. Gives the lower seed way too large an advantage. I feel like in Champions League where ostensibly there are no high seeds or low seeds it makes more sense. But in this competition, it just disadvantages the higher seed far too much.
Also, I think the higher seed should get home field in game two. Ridiculous to be higher and play the second game at home on a weekday.

I think the better seed should either get Game 1 at home or get the choice of which game they want to host. Game 1 does so much to dictate how Game 2 will be played, the better seed should get the chance to dictate the start of the series.

I also wonder ... if they changed the away goals tiebreaker to a home goals tiebreaker, would that make it a more advantageous tiebreaker for the better seed? Ultimately I think there should be no tiebreaker; just play extra time. It's the playoffs, don't decide it with a tiebreaker. But if there has to be a tiebreaker, I wonder how a home goals tiebreaker would work, and whether it would tilt the advantage to the better seed.

Or..... we can just move to one and done format where higher seed plays at home. That’s it. Oh wait! That’s exactly what MLS is doing!!!! This whole argument is moot. You’ve all just watched the last home and home MLS playoff match maybe ever. At least for a good while. Glad you all hated it. It’s gone now.

The SKC-PT match was one hell of a game to end the home and home series though, so I'm not disappointed. Blanco's goal is GOTY.

Also, seeing Blanco and Valeri hook up and interchange on the wings felt like something we could do with an additional maestro next to Maxi or on the wings.

i never minded it i just didnt like the wildcard extra game. instead start the conference semi finals there. Well see how funky or good the format next year is.

i can only imagine the nightmare it will be with stadium availability next year since playoffs will be in october.....same with MLB

portland still alive my pick after we got knocked out. im predicting a portland win, they play on turf and know how to win on it so they will win and they won a title away from home too ( ridiculous i know but hey its one game final so anything can happen)

I like one-and-done more than this format anyway, if we're being honest. In this league where home teams hold serve so often, one and done will probably actually lead to fewer upsets.

I think it will lead to more games like leg 2 in SKC vs. Portland, which would be amazing. Too many first legs were either blowouts or teams trying not to give up too much before getting to leg 2. Often led to boring, unexciting footie for half the playoffs. 1 and done will force teams to go ham or at least offer more going forward, to create better games overall. Better games = more interest.

I don't know if it will necessarily decrease upsets, as home teams will be more likely to get beaten on the break if they don't do anything with their home field advantage.
