Running Streaming Movies/TV Thread

speaking of subtitles , been watching Spanish language horror show, 30 coins on HBO Europe. Pretty solid if your into that sort of thing.

Ted Lasso on Apple TV is wonderful!
I was avoiding Ted Lasso after seeing a bit done during a premier league broadcast sometime last year or so but took a gamble one night that I couldn’t sleep.
I fell in love with the show. I guess that often happens when you have low to no expectations. I found it not only funny but charming and tender. If only there was more Ted Lasso in our culture.

Mythic Quest, also on Apple TV.

I have only watched 2 things from Apple TV+, this and Ted Lasso. Nothing else really has grabbed my attention, though I'm sure there might be other good stuff. But these 2 series alone mean you should find a way to get Apple TV+, if even just for 1-2 months to binge both of these.

The first season of Mythic Quest, which is a 30 minute comedy about a company that produces a MMORPG, ran 9 episodes and was great. Not transcendent, but great. It stars and is showrunned by the same guy as Everything's Sunny in Philadelphia (of which I've never seen even one episode but might have to try).

Last May they produced a one-off extra episode - "Quarantine" - which I just watched last night (because I had just finished Season 1 the previous week), and they reached transcendence. It achieves a truly Ted Lasso level and mix of humor, heart, pathos, despair, and optimism. I have rarely felt so moved by art, and to have done it in a 30 minute sitcom format is astounding. I cannot recommend it more highly, but do not, DO NOT watch it without first watching the entire first season. Without that background the relationships, jokes and plot lines will not have enough meaning for you to get full value. They apparently produced it almost entirely from the actors' actual homes using specially modified iPhones, yet the entire production shows no real signs of second tier production values, and the incorporation of video conferencing is completely organic and not gimmicky.

I believe both Ted Lasso and this show have second seasons coming in a few months.

Try For All Mankind. They jus finished releasing season 2. Might be the best thing on TV right now. Especially if you enjoy NASA history.

I'm sorry I didn't post this one sooner. It's excellent!

Oh that's a new one, if its anything like its always sunny in philedalphia I'm sure ill like it too.

ZING, Gotteeem!

No but seriously IASIP is great. People might think its crude humor and be turned off, but if your into that sort of thing its amazing and bingeable.

Yeah, I think I somehow sensed IASIP was crude, which I why I never checked it out. I not against it categorically, but crude humor has to be really really good for me to enjoy it. Mythic Quest is really, really good, and not particularly crude. There's some of that (in fact there is some fairly crude and funny humor associated with the shovel above) and it's also really funny, but crude is not where the show sits for the most part.

Crude humor - Big Mouth - so fucking funny.

Mare of East Town - HBO/HBO Max

It's almost universally praised and I agree with the consensus. 7 episode standalone series, with a character driven small town murder mystery. I have one quibble. I hesitate to bring it up because even this item happens organically and makes sense, but it still bugs me. I'm even going to keep it vague in the spoiler. Anyone who has seen it will know exactly what I mean though:
It rather annoyed me that the character at the center of the entire mystery had been on screen for less than 20 minutes (estimated) out of 7 hours before the reveal. It makes sense because another more prominent character was both arguably responsible and tried to accept blame, but it still bugs me.

But watch it if you have access. Well written and acted.
