Running Streaming Movies/TV Thread

Watch El Presidente on Amazon Prime. Just do it and thank me later! And watch it in Spanish, with subtitles if you need. That overdub is horrible, and you miss out on the acting.

Wonder Woman 84 disappointed.
Bah humbug.
I enjoyed Wonder Woman but more in a "this was fun but I'm glad I didn't spend $100 going to a movie theater kind of way." I guess I think it wasn't a good movie but it was entertaining, good enough to pass an afternoon with, in a way.

The biggest problem for me was that it seemed to be pretty poor writing, or maybe the writing was OK but the story was weak. Kind of hard to say. I mean, in the fight in the White House what's-his-name had the bad guy completely under his control and was even handcuffed to him. All he had to do was wish that everything was back to the way it was, making a noble sacrifice of himself, and the movie could've tearfully ended in triumph right there and everyone would've been happy. I was honestly surprised the movie kept going after that point.

Also, was it canon the way she got her invisible jet? That felt a little abrupt to me. Like it maybe could have been worth a whole movie on its own but it was just something they threw in for a second so they'd have a jet. I'm certainly not a Wonder Woman scholar or anything but that seemed a bit odd. But it did allow for the funniest line in the whole movie when explained how she lost her mug! (Although it may have been something other than a mug but I think that's what it was.)

Definitely enjoyed the cameo at the end though. Nice touch.

Both Soul and Wonder Woman 84 disappointed.
Bah humbug.
I watch Soul and enjoyed it. It was no Coco or Toy Story but the story kept me engaged, laughing, and wondering what was going to happen next. The very basic ending message wasn't deep but definitely got me thinking, which I always like when a movie does that. Over all a solid 8.5 out of 10

Watched over this holiday (recommended)

"Call Me By Your Name"

"Fanny och Alexander"

"Vente a Alemania, Pepe"

And finished watching The Mandalorian

Ted Lasso on Apple TV is wonderful!
its ok. A lot of the jokes are recycled from the YouTube Spurs bit. But it’s got potential. I’m still giving it a chance.
I second @LionNYC’s opinion. The recycled bits are front loaded. I even wonder if they only included them to ground the thing for those who remember. They really created something deeper and rich. It’s funny, but less broad than the commercials.
And there’s even some Soccer chaos* in the finale.

* Of the wholesome variety.

So I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep it but I currently have HBO Max. Just finished His Dark Materials season 2. Loved the books, like the show. Much better adaptation then The Golden Compass movie. Have now moved on to Lovecraft Country. 3 episodes in pretty good mix of story and horror as racial allegory.

Also meant to mention that we're watching the finale and my wife says "this is confusing because it looks like they are playing NYCFC." :)

Anybody got Discovery+?

It's cheap and seems to have tons of content, but is the content actually compelling enough to actively seek it out by going into the app and finding a show?
I watch house hunters quite a bit, but usually just when "it's the best thing on" and I'm not in the mood to watch a deeper show. I don't think I'd seek that, or Mysteries of the Abandoned, or Flip or Flop, or Pawn Stars. If im in the mood for scrolling through an app- not just go through my 30 or so favorite channels to see what's on- I'll probably catch up on tons of shows or movies on netflix.
So basically, it has a lot of stuff I'd watch, but a lot of that is stuff that I could easily live without or live with what's available on the live channels. Maybe it will be an easier choice once I cut the cord (hurry up Starlink!)

Edit: who's got the basic version? Are the ads relentless and exist basically to push you to get the full version, or is the $4.99 still a good deal?

Short 16 minute film on ESPN+, highly recommend for all soccer fans

thank you so much for posting this! Really enjoyed it! Very nice piece of filmmaking.

Lupin - 1 5-episode season so far on Netflix

French heist / master criminal show. Fantastic. The lead is Omar Sy from Les Intouchables (Netflix movie). And if you've never seen Les Intouchables I can't recommend this highly enough. One of the best combinations of laugh out loud funny and gritty and touching you'll find.

Les Intouchables is amazing. It came out in 2011 and now is on Netflix (Netflix didn't produce it). Yes, you'll need subtitles if that's not your thing, but it's worth it.
