2016 CCL: MLS vs. LigaMX battle royale

Travel? They live here
With a club like América you are likely to get fans traveling from all across the United States and Mexico to watch them play. They have a huge following amongst Mexican-Americans and Mexican nationals alike.

They're like Barca, Real, or the Yankees. Wherever they go they have fans.

I'm still shocked that CCL games don't get more hype. I'd honestly rather win the CCL than an MLS Cup. A chance to show that not only are you the best team in MLS, but best on the continent. Plus a chance to get one up on Mexico.

I feel like if we fast forward five years, a Sounders - Club America CCL game would be a major, major event.

100% agree on CCL. It's not marketed correctly. There's a lot of money being left on the table by not doing so, so I'm surprised by that. Maybe with all the changes coming to CONCACAF and a possible Americas merger we could see something really special.

This turf field is absolutely atrocious!

It looks like players are tripping and falling left and right on the stuff.

In five years NYCFC vs América should be one of the biggest sporting events in all of North America!

If Jordan Morris had injured himself on that first spill he had... Jurgen's head may have exploded!

Oh my god Villa would have died of apoplexy if he was that open and got a cross like that.

Yeah I think it will be fixed soon. I think that's why they want to switch to the calendar year schedule. It will benefit (read: make any sense at all for) the American teams, and therefore has the potential to massively boost the tournament's stature here in the States. Which is a big step towards much larger revenues and payouts.

They're going to make that change, and increase the number of group games from 4 back to 6, and have 8-12 MLS-MEX games to broadcast in just group stages, and more during knockouts. You'll see a marketing overhaul once the format is fixed.

Gooool de Sounders!!!! Dempsy with a beatiful free kick off of a foul that shouldn't have even been called.

The tournament is stacked against MLS though since they are in Preseason and LigaMX has a number of games under their belts. Should really start about 6 weeks later. Do that and there would be a ton more buzz in the US for the tournament.
