2016 CCL: MLS vs. LigaMX battle royale

Morris looks shaky, but obviously has a ton of ability. He'll be one of the best players in the league by the end of the year. Cyle Larin type rookie year, I'm thinking.

I think that America have arguably been the better team in the open field. They just haven't finished off their chances.

I don't know. Seattle has had possession. But they've had no answer for America's counters.

The ole Seattle Shootout

Need to reconfigure CONCACAF Champions League to better suit both leagues schedules. Not ideal having this quarterfinal & even semi final while MLS not in full swing. Could easily tell how rusty Seattle's form was from the beginning.

From highlights DC played great but lost steam at the end. Can't play a full 90 in pre-season mode against a LigaMX team.

They don't have FoxSports or Univision Deportes at the hotel? Most places have at least one of those two channels now.

Game tied at 0 after a half that Saw DCU as the better of the two teams.
We're talking Kansas City here... No Univision lol.
But no FS either. Just 50 channels and mostly premium and local.
I've been catching up with Twitter videos. Dempsey goal was wow.

I don't understand why Seattle or any other MLS team are at a disadvantage playing the tournament during this time of the year? They're well rested and should have had the whole offseason to prepare for this game. They can also afford to give it their all and really let it rip since they don't have a game on the weekend to worry about. I don't know how they could possibly be that rusty....

América and other Liga MX teams have games on Friday and Saturday to worry about as well as injuries and players resting for league action to deal with. It seems like it would be harder to play league and cup at the same time as opposed to just cup.

They're rusty because they haven't played a high-intensity game yet this year. They're still relatively in preseason mode, and most of the players haven't played a full 90 minutes with the entire starting roster. If they have played a full match together, it's against a lower level team in the preseason. Even if they have a preseason match against a fellow MLS team, the other team is probably figuring out tactics, who works out best where, and fitness.

Yes, they do have time to rest, but their bodies aren't exactly at 100% fitness and ability vs. how they would feel if they were in the middle of the season, or even the first 5-8 weeks of the season. Games every 3-4 days isn't the easiest thing to do, but the Mexican teams are in much better shape for handling it at this point in the season, being that they're already 7 weeks into their regular season.

Everywhere I've been in the USA had Univision. Lol
Most hotels don't carry Univision. And FS1 isn't carried by a lot of hotels either.

I travel for work constantly, and my alma mater is in the Big East, so our hoops games are all on FS1, its been a struggle trying to watch the games. I usually just end up streaming it on FS Go.

i see why this would be wanted but then the issue of fixture congestion occurs....assuming its calendar year then by the later stages you may have MLS teams deciding to try to secure a playoff spot or fight in the CCL ? not to mention maybe still be in the US open cup....so then does a team risk missing playoffs ? granted the obvious answer is yes go for CCL but some teams/ owners may not feel that way.

all in all i was right about this match up to be a toss up though the two away goals hurts seattle and kind of forces them to go for it at azteca.

i was wrong about DC i guess, but if they get an early goal at home then its on as i think queretaro is not that good.

same with Santos....i still think LA will win that series.

I watched the Seattle game last night, and it was a fun one for sure. Dempsey was terrific, but it was an off night for Frei, who is usually solid. Plus, the back four for the Sounders made a couple of critical errors. The lack of coordination in back is what you get in your first competitive game.

All in all, Seattle probably deserved a better result. They will need one in Mexico City for sure.

In MLS, watch out for the Sounders. They look good.

I'm not sure if it was just the astounding speed of Club America and their forwards/ midfield, but the Sounders CBs looked incredibly slow. I know they aren't in top season mode just yet, but damn they were getting burnt left and right. A few tight offside calls, one of which was onside, and this game could've been over before the second leg. Gives me some hope of potentially having Khiry and Taylor, if they're playing, running circles around their CB's (Evans and Marshall, I think?).
