2017 Schedule Thread

I'm happy with this. Lots of Sundays. Lots of afternoons. And a bunch of weeknights for going after work with friends.

A little worried we end with 4 of 5 on the road before decision Sunday at home. Who knows where we'll be record wise by then. 2 years in a row we started slow, but we had 2 years in a row with a new manager and new system.

Interesting notes:

- We will play Red Bulls, Orlando, and New England three times again for the third time.
- We will end the season at home again versus Columbus again.
- 15 nationally televised games between FS1, ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, and Unimas
- 4 weekday home games.
- I'm counting 4 weeks with three games during 7/8 days

Nice summary.

Really not pleased with so many short weeks, but don't know how that compares to past years or to other teams.

3 games in a week 3x:

1. May 14 - 21 (@FCD, @RSL, @ORL)
2. May 28 - Jun 3 (@ATL, NER, PHL)
3. Sep 23 - 30 (HOU, @MTL, @CHI)

#1 is just brutal, 3 away games. #2 is manageable, #3 is also a lot of travel, after starting at home, go to MTL and then CHI. At least we won't have a situation like last year where we came home after 2 away games to play RBNY on 2 days rest.

Unlike last season, neither NY nor NJ have a weekday game prior to any of the Hudson River Derbies.

The last of the three contests is on Friday, August 25. NJ will have traveled back from a game in Portland the previous Sunday.

Was hoping for a Sunday PM game so I can make the drive up after work, and the only one is Red Bull's at 6pm. Not sure I really want to attend that with the way those games have been going

Looking at this again, I really don't like how 1 and 2 are effectively back-to-back. We have 3 games in 8 days - get the usual 6 days rest - and then do 3 games in 8 days again. May is going to be a slog for these guys.

If there is any positive news, Orlando will be traveling back from a Wednesday game against San Jose before hosting us on May 21, and the same is true of Chicago when they host us on Sep 30.

Interesting tidbit from ESPN's article about the schedule

The league has also taken steps to reduce the number of games played during the day in blistering summer temperatures. Just nine matches will be held on early summer afternoons, down from 15 in 2016.
http://www.espnfc.us/major-league-s...schedule-including-break-in-july-for-gold-cup

Given the number of games with a starting time of "TBD" - it seems unlikely the summer day games will be reduced.

I'd rather us play Toronto 3 times...but no the league seems to try to play up the NY-New England/Boston rivalry which is nonexistent in soccer.

I have no issue with playing the Rev's 3x. I don't get the Orlando thing. I don't get the feeling anyone cares about them, even with Kreis. In order of preference for facing a third time:

Tier One
1. Red Bulls
Tier Two
2. Toronto
Tier Three
3. New England
4. Philadelphia
5. DC United
Tier Four
6. Montreal
7. Atlanta
8. Chicago
9. Orlando
10. Columbus

Does anyone recall how far in advance/when the TBD were D?
