2017 U20 WC Roster Announced

Tough loss for Venezuela and our boy, as they fall 1-0 to England in the final. Herrera was very strong today. Venezuela had a penalty saved midway through the 2nd half.

Very entertaining game, as there were plenty of chances. Seemingly, Venezuela had at least a touch more possession with England playing almost entirely on the counter, but really just an up and down game. Venezuela was not helped by playing extra time in all of their prior KO matches.

As an NYC/LFC supporter, it felt good to see what I believe were the top two players on the field both from those clubs, respectively. Solanke looks like he might be a really worthy addition from Chelsea. His playing style seems nicely suited to Liverpool.

Let's all be thankful Herrera made it through unscathed, playing every single minute. I'm not so concerned with him being fatigued. I think getting this much time in a captain's role where he's looked at as the soul of the squad will give him a lot of confidence and useful experience to bring back to NYC for the rest of the season and playoff push.

It will not surprise me if he becomes even more of a force. The loss might actually even mean additional impetus for him. All you can really say for certain, though, is well done, young man. I like his talent and physicality and athleticism, but he also has a maturity and effort-level to his game that really stood out on this stage.

ETA: Herrera takes the bronze ball as #3 player in tournament. Solanke with the golden ball. So I was not the only person who thought they were the best two players.

I feel like his performance will force a move to a bigger side next year though :(

We as a forum have disputed that. It's certainly possible, but it doesn't make sense. No one really gets a move up in leagues based on u20 WCF without pairing it with top division club performances.

If he starts every game the rest of the year for us (he won't), he will still have only around 25 games in top 20 league.

CFG has no reason to sell him at that point. And they also have no reason to loan him out elsewhere when they have a person they trust managing his development. And that man is also a legend at the same position.

You let him solidify himself at NYCFC, at least through next summer, if not the following summer. Then you sell when he's worth 10x or loan to a La Liga or Bundesliga club with an option to buy at 15-20x.

Let's see him win the Golden Boot in October at the U17 World Cup.
He'd have to be one of the very top favorites for it. His biggest competition could come internally from Akinola, whom I don't rate, but he's lacks awareness so regularly he ends up shooting all the time. And the team typically so dominant, he scores well above what he should.

I wouldn't mind Weah pushing him out.
