There was a trade in MLB folklore where Team A traded a player to be named to Team B or something and Player 1 went back to the same team in the end. There may have been a bag of peanuts involved too, or a goat.

It happened 4 times. No surprise that the first one involved the 1962 Mets:

On April 25, 1962—before he even played a game for the Indians—Chiti was acquired by the expansion New York Mets for a player to be named later. However, he was sent back to the Indians on June 15, 1962 after 15 games and a .195 batting average.[3] Since Chiti was the "player to be named later", he thus became the first player ever traded for himself. Three other players in history have been traded for themselves: Dickie Noles, Brad Gulden, and John McDonald. Chiti never played another major league game, spending two more years at Triple-A before retiring in 1964.​

On a separate note, I've heard on Sunday from fellow fans who were talking to players that preseason will take place, at least in part, in Abu Dhabi. Not just 5 players going for a PR, Marketing campaign but full team preseason in the Emirates.

Abu Dhabi in February is actually perfect for soccer. Highs in the upper 70s. I've heard it's delightful and they actually get a spot of rain.

What's not to love about Rossi? Young DP, so he frees up $300K in cap space. 12 goals and 9 assists last year. He's terrific.

Mind you, I don't believe the rumor for a second, but I'd love to have him.

When you say "or can we only use AMs", I'm assuming the first part of your post is asking if we can purchase players without using an "AM's". AM's in this instance would include TAM, GAM, and the rumored YAM. So, would we be able to purchase a player without using "G"AM? (I would also assume in this instance, we are ruling out "sending them a check that becomes GAM").

So that is why I answered your previous post with:

I'm assuming that since you were excluding GAM, that maybe there is a way to purchase a player within the league without using GAM, but I don't think any team would sell that way, because there is little incentive.

We have GAM and TAM to use. We can spend it. We can trade it.

What’s the difference between us buying Diego Rossi for $10 million instead of sending LAFC $750k in GAM?

Why waste that beautiful GAM?
