With WC Qualifying wrapping up in March and the WC and no international competitions over the summer, and the MLS Cup wrapping up ahead of the WC, it should be a wide-open calendar with mostly reasonable game spacing, especially compared to this year.
Wow. I actually think there's a good possibility that we see no games at RB next year, unless we make CL. Also of course depends on what else is happening at any of these times with these stadiums that's not nycfc-related.
the claim is that both YS and Citi are in "winterization" mode. so they cant host anything in February. so its seems all CCL will be in RBA since Concacaf loves that stadium.

TAKEAWAYS

- Other than before and after the baseball season, none of the International Windows falls when Yankee Stadium is available.
- Assuming we go back to something like the original schedule for 2020 (starting March 1 ending October 4) Yankee Stadium can host:
- 11 weekend dates during the baseball season,
- another 4 weekend dates prior to the season starting,
- another 4 Wednesdays, 3 Tuesdays and 2 Fridays
- Citifield could host another 8 weekend dates.
- There is apparently the threat of some labor unrest next season in baseball, so that could change things considerably, as could our good friend Covid-19.
- The 2020 MLS Playoffs were supposed to begin October 17 and conclude Nov 7, so if that repeats the World Cup release date should not be an issue.

Sims just sent out an email saying that as of now 2022 looks like 2/3 at YS and 1/3 at Citi Field. RBA would be the third option if either of those are not available - if games get moved in the season then RBA is the probable venue.
Looking ahead to 2022
- We are working closely with the MLS League Office, the Yankees and the Mets on our schedule for next season. The plan is to play as many games as we can at Yankee Stadium; however, based on the 2022 MLS scheduling template (which includes holds for FIFA breaks and a number of other competitions such as CONCACAF Champions League, US Open Cup and Leagues Cup) we already know that Yankee Stadium will not be available for all 17 home games. We’re working with the Mets to secure Citi Field as our secondary venue. As it is currently trending, we are likely to play roughly 2/3 of next year’s home matches at Yankee Stadium with the plan to schedule the remaining matches at Citi Field.
- The inevitable follow-up question is whether there is any chance we will be playing at Red Bull Arena in 2022. Let me be clear, we are not planning to schedule any MLS 2022 regular season home matches at Red Bull Arena. However, if we find ourselves with a conflict for any reason (such as the Yankees rainout makeup games this season) and neither Yankee Stadium nor Citi Field are available, then Red Bull Arena would be our third venue option. Again, if we do have to play any 2022 matches at RBA, these of course will all be optional for City Members.
This seems like good news. The RBA games have been an unmitigated disaster for the club in virtually every way, and they can't continue. Good to see they seem to know that.
I am a little surprised so many games would need to be shifted to Citi Field as there are a lot of windows available at Yankee Stadium this year. That seems to be a function of the MLS schedule and not MLB. Even so, I like the games at Citi and don't have a problem with it.
One thing that helps is that MLB seems to have gotten back to their usual approach of having only one of the Mets and Yankees playing at home at a time. So, when the Yankees are in Yankee Stadium, Citi Field is usually available.

Seems like it'll be what 2020 would have been. Not ideal but much better than rba and also more actual breaks during international breaks
Exactly. The pre-Covid 2020 Citi package -- plus the high number of midweek games - was driven entirely by MLS and NYCFC schedule choices. There should be little surprise that it could happen again even if Yankee Stadium has substantial windows available. Expect the same or worse in 2023 when the expanded Leagues Cup hiatus hits.
It seems like the key is that in 2021, MLB did not work the Yankee and Mets schedules so that only one tended to play at home at a time. So, when we had a few conflicts, Citi Field was not available as a backup.
By the way, I don't think they ever did that for our benefit. It was to minimize dates when the two baseball teams compete against each other.

Absolutely. Going back decades that is how it has always worked with Mets and Yankees, and Giants and Jets (going back to when they had different stadiums and could play on the same day). It held true 80-95% of the time. When one team was home the other was away and vice-versa. Not sure if the NBA or NHL did it to the same extent.
