2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

I wonder if Gustavo already has his visa, and they were waiting to announce until he would be eligible to play.

The transfer was done a month ago, he was in Manchester (presumably doing the promo pictures) over two weeks ago. If LAFC already has a visa for Son, surely we already have ours for Gustavo, right?

I didn't follow the Gustavo news/rumors when it hit weeks back. But he's a 26 year-old defender, spent a bunch of time in Brazil where they have a notoriously crowded, year-round schedule, and he's still yet to make 100 professional appearances?

I gotta ask, is it injuries or is he just not that good?

based on transfer market site, he was not in the squad or on the bench before he went to hungary. even in hungary, doesn't seem like he was a stone cold starter either. i'm thinkin he's coming in as a backup and not as a starter... unless haak is really going to europe then i suppose he'll slot in beside martins.

A Corinthians supporter came on the NYCFC subreddit and didn't have good things to say about him.

Eastern European Club Transfer FC.

Hudson River Blue has a good writeup on him. He's had injury issues the last few seasons. Plus, after Jansen left the club at the start of this year, Jansen's replacement* didn't rate Gustavo. That's why he was available to us.

The last season where he played a full year was in 2022 for Corinthians, where his percentile stats were 80s or better in things like advancing the ball, tackles and interceptions.

* - FWIW, the new coach is former MLS star striker, Robbie Keane.

Seems like a reclamation project worth the risk. Somewhat like Wolf, maybe inline with Callens?

I agree, also Pascal’s prior experience coaching Gustavo and his desire to bring him here should carry significant weight. The red card mentioned on Reddit was a poor decision, but I doubt Pascal would approve the signing if he believed Gustavo was a serious discipline risk. Under Pascal, cheap fouls, arguing with refs, and theatrical play have dropped sharply. This season’s improvements to me show he sets a high bar for professionalism and expects players to stay focused and avoid distractions. I can't see Pascal agreeing to bring in someone he didn’t believe could meet those standards.

I noticed that, but it's such boilerplate language that goes in every release on a new player. Knowing the team, they would put that in the release even if he already had his visa.
I was wondering about this myself. Could he just be waiting to receive an actual hardcopy of his P-1 visa? I can't imagine the organization would have announced before it was approved.

Considering that our manager has first hand experience with him, I'm much more comfortable with this signing than I otherwise would be.

Is this a rumor?
