2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

It would really bother me if KDB came to MLS and it wasn't with us. What's the point of our Man City partnership if we don't get players like him to come here?
The man city connection only gave us potential dibs on developing talent.. maybe. Not a chance it meant we'd get any rights or preference with a star leaving man city. It's always up to the player.

Shay Facey and Angelino...who else?

Yangel Herrera was signed by Man City and then loaned to NYCFC.

Of course it's up to the player. But also, the organization should have a way to try to push players toward NY.

This quote from Pep about KDBs departure makes it sound like they pushed him out a bit. If true he may not be too egar to go to another CFG club:

"Speaking to the media, Guardiola said: "The decision has been made for the club, and the club is the club. Me, Txiki [Begiristain, sporting director], and the club, so this is what it is. It was not easy for me to tell him it won’t continue."

yeah. and none of those guys were superstars leaving man city. they were all developmental talent, which is my point. the CFG/man city connection only gets us potential dibs on the youngins hoping to develop and then play for man city first team, not the aging super stars.

Both of these may be true. It certainly looks like they're pushing him out, and it doesn't look like they're pushing him our way.

Apple doesn't have up to date payment info for me and finally cut me off of the MLS pass after weeks of threatening to. I don't see us as being worth spending the money on reupping it as things stand. We sign KDB or someone comparable and I'd probably get the wallet back out.

Still shocked that the team is allowing the roster to be so uninspriing at the same time they are trying to sell suites in the new stadium and season ticket renewal packages.

Someone with that tracker...have we ever had a TAM or DP summer signing in the past 5 years?

FootyLovin is the man with the tracker, from some quick searching:

DPs signed in preseason or early season: Villa, Lampard*, Medina, Magno, Santi, Martins, Mitri and Maxi.

Pirlo is the only DP who joined midseason, but because he joined as a free transfer, he was announced in early July, slightly before the summer transfer window opened.

TAM is harder because the team doesn't always announce which players they use TAM on, looking at big signings that happened in the summer the last few years:

2024 - no one
2023- Martinez, Julian and Bakrar
2022 - Risa
2021 - No one

Green - DP
White - normal signing
Blue - home grown
Grey - contract extension
Red - departure
Pink - short term contract

2021 was a really good year for summer signings with both Magno and Santi coming in July. Beyond that Pirlo was probably our only mid-season impact* signing in the history of the club. Even Taty in 2018 only became an impact player years afterwards.

* Pirlo's on field impact is debatable.
