2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

I don’t think Lee or CFG care much about on field success. I think we just operate as another exchange for CFG to invest and sell assets. The lack of focus on specific roster needs, the failure to fill glaring holes, and the age and credentials of his signings confirm this. Maybe Lee has some reservations about this and/or is under strict orders from CFG, but if Lee does have any flexibility as to a focus on actual MLS success, he’s also incompetent.

I'll be honest if they don't do anything to convince me their trying to be competitive when the new stadium opens I might be out on MLS until they possibly sell (which they probably never will)

I think there is some truth to this, but at the same point, because they will make more money if they invest to fill the stadium at higher prices, you might see further investment for those reasons.

Yes, it’s always been my hunch that they are going to alter the blue print to some degree temporarily as they open the new stadium.

I mean if the Lee doesn’t, than why even have a GM. It’s literally his job. Even if CFG isn’t like all into opening the purse strings for DP and Young DP, there’s still league allocated funds to help out. There is an interest in putting a better product on the field regardless of how passive it is. Just for brand relevance minimum.

I think differently for 2 reasons. (1) If any 1-2 of Bakrar, Ojeda, Fernandez, Jovan, Magno had hit, we'd be somewhere between content and thrilled with the roster build. (2) I think Pascal has greater insight into the inner workings than we do, and I don't think he comes here if he thinks that.

I agree they care. But they care more about proving they can achieve sporting success while cycling through young players who either never come good or get sold as soon as they do.

As for Pascal, I was thinking about him yesterday. Even assuming they didn't expect Santi to get sold, this was a troubled roster. But coaches believe they can fix what's broken. He probably also looked at how they left Cushing naked in 2023 and thought, "They won't do that to me." Now he's here and working to stay positive.

How about these moves!

Agree there is possibly more truth in that than we'd like. Certainly telling that Pascal started with public comments about working to bring players in and at some point transitioned to language that those pursuits weren't something he would comment on.

This is pure cope, but maybe Lee did pick all these guys, and CFG basically told him: “We gave you $23M and a new coach, no more money. You’ve got a year to prove you can make it work with your squad, or you're out.”

If they’re losing faith in Lee due to poor player selection, it would make sense for them to hold off on any major roster decisions until his replacement is in place, rather than letting him dig a deeper hole.

It’s a long shot, but I’d honestly prefer that scenario over the alternative: that the entire organization genuinely thinks this roster is fine and sitting out the window was acceptable.

that's assuming Lee is solely responsible for picking players. but we have to assume Jansen has some say in what players he wants. Cushing didn't want Chanot and they found a way to get rid of him and brought in Risa. We all know Dome had issues with not getting the players he wanted. So, Coaches do have some say but you could be right that right now CFG doesn't want to spend more money. Feel bad for Jansen if this is the case. Kinda like he got shafted and unless there are big moves in the summer, maybe he's looking for a new job cause he doesn't want to be at a club that won't get him players he needs.

That being said, we have a buttload of GAM. Can't that be used for intraleague trades to add some decent depth?

Wish you were correct but this is likely copium.

$0 spent in two transfer windows. $4M+ in GAM. Double digit percentage increase in season ticket prices. 4x increase in prices in the new stadium. Below the playoff line.

Fuck this front office. All of them.
