Hiya guys

I'm just wondering what your thought's are on Angelino and Facey after their loan to NYCFC? i'm a Man City fan but I've taken huge interest in NYCFC and although from the outside looking in it seems both Angelino and Facey have done well but I would like your opinions for those who watch them every match your you?

Cheers

Facey was pretty good for us, but it is hard to see him having a future at MC. Too small to play in the center and looked out of sorts early in the season when they tried him at fullback though, in fairness, it was at the very beginning of the season and he didn't play there long. My hope, personally, is that he actually has a longer term future at NYCFC because I don't think he is viable in the top two divisions in England.

Angelino was dynamic and exciting. He was exposed a bit later in the season due to lack of physical strength and, I think, a playing style that is much better suited for higher level football than MLS. Specifically, the fullback that bombs up the pitch is under-utilized at the offensive end and then gets caught out at the back since there isn't sufficient cover. But he looks a real player and I suspect we'd all happily take him back for another year!

Both talented, Angelino extremely so. But while Angelino showed some defensive skill, he clearly played with the head of a winger. He frequently left large openings in behind him as a result of running forward. On heat maps, he shows up higher on the pitch than the two holding midfielders.

Facey had some good games, but unfortunately many around here did not see a Premier League starter ceiling. A little small at CB (we were terrible at defending set pieces), and he struggled at FB at the beginning of the year. Seems to do everything good enough, but nothing great.

Thanks guys.

I watch our EDS and Angelino in particular always impresses me and I have high hopes for him at Leftback even though his size isn't the tallest I still think with the experience he will get out on loan he will get there in the end and with Paddy Vieira becoming the manager I expect Angelino back with you/us next season because I know Paddy has high hopes for Angelino.

We can now see more and more MLS matches in the UK now so hopefully next season I will be able to watch more although I didn't miss that many last season because of streams etc - It's exciting times ahead for us all

Let me ask a Q back at you. Who else do you think Vieira might take with him to NYC from the EDS? We are allowed to take up to four.

From what you know, is Kean Bryan ready for a loan out to a men's league to get first team minutes? One of our biggest team weaknesses was at CDM, and we need someone to protect Pirlo defensively. Bryan could learn a lot about dictating play from the deep midfield from Pirlo.

Anyone else you see as a possibility to send over?

Well I know Kean and his family personally and one thing he has got are his feet on the ground and he is developing at a huge rate and he would fit in nicely alongside Pirlo,We also have a lads out on loan called George Evans who is playing in CM and is solid and chips in with goals and has scored 3 in 4 matches for Walsall.Another lad out on loan is a more and more defensive midfielder called Jack Byrne and I've tipped him to be a real player in the years ahead and I have very high hopes for him making it in our midfield.

I wouldn't rule out 2 wingers in Brandon Barker who I also know well because my son used to play alongside him at Junior football and Brandon has developed easily at every level he's been tested at and he also is out on loan at the moment at Rotherham United and scored a world class goal on his debut on Saturday and was made man of the match,Another winger that's going to be a huge star and is actually in our squad of 25 is Patrick Roberts who plays left winger and can score aswell as having a radar of a pass and we paid around £12m for him from Fulham last season and and he plays also for our EDS aswell as being in our first team squad and he is going to be a huge star and soon if he carries on developing.

One thing I will guarantee you is whoever Paddy gets on loan from our EDS they will be ready for the MLS and won't be sent to NYCFC just for the sake of it because we have some genuinely great lads and are way ahead of anything at the same age level in the UK and the future for us is very bright.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next season for NYCFC

Thanks for the kind words.. I'm sure the connection with us City fans regardless of it being NYCFC or MCFC will be a fruitful one and over on my facebook group we have loads of NYCFC supporters and there's a bond developing between our clubs and I will be honest when I say I wasn't that interested in any other team than MCFC but NYCFC has got my attention and i'm hoping to take in a match next season because one of my friends who used to play for City Shaun Wright Phillips now plays for the enemy in New York with his brother Bradley and i'm trying to get over next season to see him and take in a couple of NYCFC's matches

Facey and Angelino aren't ready for Man City yet. They should stay in New York for like three more years, maybe four to be safe. You know, once they've developed the skill to hold up a trophy for a couple of seasons.
Bump that, offer Facey a contract Angelino will get time with City so he no point in offering him contract.

I know more than enough about Facey and Angelino but I was trying to get the opinions of how they were with NYCFC and my assessment is Facey will struggle with our first team but Angelino I have high hopes for and I think he's more than capable of breaking into our squad within the next 1-2 seasons

And another question for you mcfc9320group - how do MCFC fans tend to feel about MLS as a league to develop youth players in versus the youth leagues and other leagues in Europe?

enemy of New York

Fixed.

Thanks a million for the insight. As others have said before me, Angelino was dynamic and we absolutely want to see him back here. Shay is all class and I enjoyed his play as well but he didn't really do anything incredibly outstanding. He made a bunch of great recovery runs for us though so his speed was very much appreciated. I'd be happy to have him back under PV.

Thanks for all the input from across the pond.

My thoughts after watching Facey and Angelino for a full season are that Facey may not develop into a top-flight defender and Angelino has a huge upside but isn't there yet. Our back line was quite poor this year, and Facey was its anchor. It's not clear that Facey has the size or speed - basic raw materials - to be elite. I do think he can grow into a solid CB for a lower level EPL, top level MLS type club. As for Angelino, he clearly has the raw materials. I do think he needs more playing time - especially to work on his defense. He was electric bombing forward, and his service off the left side was sublime; he set up Villa for several terrific goals. Angelino's defense, however, was sub par, and he cost us a few goals here and there, especially late in the year when he conceded penalty kicks in successive games. He actually lost time on the pitch toward the end because of these issues. That said, we love the guy and would be happy to have him back next year to further his development (same for Facey).

Facey improved considerably as the season went on. By the end of the year he was much more confident on the ball and assertive on defense. By the end of the season most of the mistakes I saw him make came from lapses in communication and covering between him and his CB pairing. Our backline was in a constant state of change all season so it's hard to blame those issues on him. He uses his speed well but as others have mentioned his height was a big problem on corners and set pieces.

I agree with others that Angelino was up and down. Did some amazing things on offense and got pushed around defensively. He was caught upfield attacking often but it's hard to say if that was his error or if he was being instructed to attack and the players assigned to cover for him failed. I know highlights don't show everything but below are sample of the good and the bad we saw from him:

Can only really answer this from my own opinion, but to be honest I'm not too fussed where the boys go, game time is what is important for them. Competitive matches.
Take Jason deneyar. Great prospect. Went to Celtic for a season, won all awards amongst their fans. Real prospect, but Celtic? No disrespect but the Scottish league is not the best to test yourself in. My point is, it's the competitive nature. Nothing can beat the experience of playing in front of an actual crowd, playing against men of all ages. That is the experience they need.
I think the MLS is a good move for younger lads to learn the game. There is lots to cope with, the different pitches at each ground, the climate, the travel. If they can adjust to that then they should develop their game. Not just city youngsters, but others too. I don't like to see our younger lads go to European teams though, especially Holland. The football is very similar to ours but lacks pace and it is on a par with Scottish league. I think I would always want to see our boys tested. Somewhere where we can see their progress. In our lower leagues or in the Mls.
I don't like European development, but 1st choice UK, followed by MLS for development. Viera knows these kids and want them to succeed.

And another question for you mcfc9320group - how do MCFC fans tend to feel about MLS as a league to develop youth players in versus the youth leagues and other leagues in Europe?

From the discussions I have on twitter and my Facebook group the feeling is that our youth leagues are very very good but obviously the MLS is a much higher league so the step up from the youth leagues ( EDS as they are known now ) is much higher but you can see that some of our EDS lads are at a much higher standard than most of the teams in the UK .

I don't know if you know but the EDS lads play against European teams now and is just like the Champions League for the younger players so that standard is very very high because we've played against all the huge European teams like Barcelona,Real Madrid,Bayern Munich etc etc and some of the big clubs like us and the ones I've just named and others have some of their younger players in the first team squad so the experience these younger lads have now is excellent.

I would love to see some of our first team squad that's not playing regularly come over and play for you/us in the MLS and vice versa because it would benefit both clubs and make the players better by getting to know the leagues and I've talked about things like this on my Facebook group that I feel in the next 5-10 years the MLS will be the place to be for football because the days are going where footballers only go to the MLS for the money and you will get players in their prime heading to the MLS because the standard now is excellent and I know I've mentioned it further up in the thread about a friend of mine who is Shaun Wright Phillips who plays for the enemy in New York and we've spoken about the standard in the MLS and he says's it's of an excellent quality and he agrees in the next few years it will be the place to be.
