This country is SO backwards in the way we do motorcycles. In Europe you have to start with a small displacement bike and work your way up. Here you can go out and a GSXR the day you get your license. Incredibly stupid and dangerous.
When I first got my M1, I tried to start off riding a huge Honda cruiser. It was totally unmanageable for me just starting out. So I picked up a cheap, Chinese scooter and rode that around for a couple of months. It's a great way to start out. It gives you the confidence of navigating on two wheels whiteout the distraction of shifting gears. It made for a super easy transition to an actual bike.
