Late kickoff today gives us a shorter window between games. We take on Red Bull's in 5 days. White and Ring are coming back but appears we will be without Herrera. All thanks to MLS officiating.

Kick off is Friday at 7PM.. likely 7:10 with it being a national broadcast game.

Broadcast - ESPN, WFAN (Online) & WQBU

Crooks and his cohost on WFAN brought up Tmac during the game after the final sub was made and said it's unfortunate he has been forgotten. No, no it's not. It's for the best, for the good of the team.
Hopefully we won't be seeing him in the XI next week if Herrera sits.
Definitely heading into this one with momentum. Three straights wins and only two loses and one draw in the last 10, seven wins.

Today's win was so important from a standings perspective. Who is definitely out for this match?
Herrera (don't think this will be overturned)
Chanot? (Doesn't sound like he has been training, probably won't be back by Friday)

Herrera (Yellow Card Accumulation unless MLS somehow removes it, either through DisCo or magically).
Sands (International Duty)
Chanot, Matarrita, Camargo (Injury)

Go with a flat 4-4-2 please. Let Villa roam. Ugo up top.

Wouldn't it end up like more of a wide diamond?

It could. Doesn't have to. Later in the game, we played a 4-4-2 (or a 4-4-1-1 depending on what you thought Villa was doing). Maxi stayed home. Ball went over the top some to Ugo.

RedBulls like to high press. For the life of me, I can't imagine this is the game to have Mikey Lopez linking up play.

Taking Mikey off does mean you lose a speed bump in midfield, but it adds the extra dimension of playing the ball over the top to Ugo when needed.

Wallace Villa Lewis
Maxi Ring Harrison
Sweat Callens Brilliant White
  • Hope Jack gets back inform he has just been disappearing for long stretches of games recently
  • Cannot wait to have Ring back this game. The midfield link up was horrendous last night until Mikey came off.
  • Sweat has 6 assists now... (I'll take it for a league minimum player but please can we replace him)
  • Stadium talks shouldn't be discussed until they figure out where the statues of David God Villa is going to grace our beautiful new location.

Ugo is horrible. A striker has to bury his chance yesterday 100% of the time. Doesn't hustle, can't poach. Another useless body.
Slightly less useless than Lopez.

I can't help but wonder if we should have been giving some of those Lopez minutes to Kwame. I'm thinking just a little more seasoning is all he would need to be a better option for the same role.

Going to this game - first time in that piece of shit rent-a-kit stadium for years, so hopefully we make them feel as embarrassed as they should be, being a crappy soda team from New Jersey.

It was bad, but, he's obviously at least somewhat capable based on past results. He and Maxi both got their body position completely wrong on decent opportunities. There's only one Deus Villa that can nail it 90% of the time.

My favorite moment yesterday was seeing Lopez get the ball, and after another crappy, useless pass, he gestured at either Maxi or Herrera, like, you need to show for the ball or something. I was cracking up, that guy sucks so bad, and you can see the gears are turning so slowly in little mikeys head, to think he is trying to blame someone else, its just too much.

What are the choices?

10 men or a striker that misses wide open shots from the penalty spot?

How about, like Sweat and Brillant, our backups have some utility?
I'm not one side or the other but Okoli does offer some utility. He takes up space and makes the defense focus one less guy on Villa. He is also very good at set piece defense.

Whether that is worth pulling another midfielder against the red bulls is debatable when they are going to play 6 in the midfield.
