Are there other teams that anyone knows of that play in competitive leagues and switch from 4 to 3 at the back during the season? Its a huge switch to do, and you are asking a lot of the players to know responsibilities in each different formation. Toronto switched full time to 3 at the back, they don't go back and forth. Just seems pointless. No teams we have ever played have been surprised or unprepared for it.

The time to experiment is in preseason, but we cant seem to get our team together until 3 days before each season starts. I just don't see the point of it. A good 4 man backline can shut down any opposition, you only do it if you specifically acquire the right players for the system. We specifically went and got players that fit well in a 433, why dick around with that?

It just seems like he wants to be known as some tactical genius that can get his teams to do whatever he wants. He's done a great job with the 433 build from the back system, but this craziness and his crazy subs sometimes drive me nuts.

TFC will switch to 4 ATB at times.

It would have been nice to have everyone during the preseason but that is not the situation we were in unfortunately.

I don't think the problem is the formation. I think 3 ATB had a lot of value especially at narrpw Yankee Stadium, and giving up on it now would be short sighted.

The issue was the lineup and that the tactics PV wanted were not clearly communicated. Chanot should have been playing the right side and Mata or Wallace should have been benched so that Harrison wouldn't have to play wingback.

Man U under LVG switched back and forth. Didn't work out well. Koeman did it with Everton but that's really been because of injuries and suspensions.
